What we have now are classes.
Jobs are specific playstyles for classes that are meant for the "harder" content of the game, such as dungeons, raids, and HNMs.

From what I can remember, the confirmed jobs are Paladin, Monk, Black Mage, White Mage, and Bard (which means I'm missing two, or they didn't tell us the other 2, I don't recall).

Can't find the post of it either so you'll have to take my word for it :3

You will always be a class. So if you play gladiator as long as you have a sword you will ALWAYS be a Gladiator.

But once you hit a certain rank and complete a quest you can EQUIP Paladin. So you would become a Gladiator/Paladin

think of it as a kind of subjob that instead of giving you more skills, it restricts you to the skills it excels at and makes you more powerful at using them.

There really isn't a different way to say it.

Maybe....

Weapons = Classes
Jobs = Playstyle, such as Tank, Healer, DPS, Nuker

Jobs are equipped on top of classes to specify the class's role. A class is just a weapon that gives abilities as you rank it up.

They should have never called them classes and just kept calling them weapons. then none of this but hurt over "Oh, gladiators are not as strong as pugilist at tanking" would never have happened.

They're not changing the current classes to those, they're adding a job system on top of the class system. Basically, when you get a high-enough level on a class, you can do a quest that unlocks a job that is a specialized version of that class. So for instance, you get GLA to 25 (my estimate) and do a quest that unlocks Paladin. Now you can switch to Paladin, and have a different skillset that is more specialized for party play. These jobs are more limited in what class abilities they can equip. It's all in Yoshi's letters and interviews.
