Beef between WAR and PLD tanks

For Titan Ex specifically, the consensus is WAR OT because it's easier for them to hold the adds, and that's really about it. A good PLD can hold the adds just fine, but it's generally easier for WAR because of Overpower and Steel Cyclone. Similar example is Turn 4, Warriors can tank the dreads, but it's much easier to let PLD rotate CDs on Dreads while WAR holds all the adds. Either tank can do either role, but there are natural advantages for each that should be taken into consideration.

At the end of the day, there isn't a big difference in the ability of each tank to tank, there are just differences in how they're played. WAR requires a bit more thinking, maintaining the various buffs/debuffs, timing IB correctly, etc. While PLD spams one combo, hits Defensive CDs as needed, and takes it like a champ.

One tank class has better single target DPS than the other when not tanking, and only outputs better DPS because of the other tank class' slashing damage debuff. I guess I just think that an active mitigation design is far more intuitive than staggering cooldowns and such. Any tank should have a handful of defensive cooldowns, and I'll admit I don't know when the best time to pop mine is in most fights yet - oftentimes I'm too late because of FFXIV's spell delay (Looking at you, Hallowed Ground on cooldown despite me dying), but it just seems like lazy design to me.

Warriors have self-healing, paladins have shields. It'd be neat if we did more with those shields. Halorne for enmity, some shield-based 3rd hit for maintaining a buff. I'm not saying the class needs something like a block buffing rotation, just that it needs something interesting.

both tank are in really good spot and balance right now. they both can Tank any contain in the game, but might require slightly different strat.

tbh, I like PLD OT on titan ex better than way. just cause I can cheat add /boss land slide combo with Tempered Will.

I got no idea how people do it now aday ;P but back when it first came out I use to OT a lot as PLD on Titan Xm since I have to deal with a lot of new tank and 95% of them had no idea how to deal with add/boss combo (some 1 always end up got landslide off the platform, heck I even got landslide off the platform once as MT on boss, got caught off guard LOL). it a lot easier to just put new tank on boss during add since all they had to is dodging the bomb and survive MB. ( on a bright side I never lost my agro on Add with my flash spam ;P

to be absolutely fair, the adds duty was really not hard at all without tempered will. dat blm/smn lb3 though, made it tough to see anything at all, and was responsible for killing me more than once

Yea it's really not after you get used to it.. I still pop it just to be safe, occasionally I'll have a odd camera angle where it looks like you are out of the landslide but still knocks you off. And it's cool just to stand in it intentionally and not be moved xD
