It differs server to server, timezone-timezone. Jenova is actually a really polite server with these hunts (until US afterwork hours lol, I'm on GMT mornings/early afternoon). Most will wait for people to arrive, call out in all linkshells, in party chats, FC chats, and we ensure everyone is doing the same. We give everyone lots of notice about the mob, give everyone time to get there (even if in another zone entirely to start with). Someone rush pulls the mob, we let them die, reset it, ask them to wait for people arriving, and raise said dead person.

Put into that the awesome people you meet along the way, the great ideas for clothing / glamors you may not have considered etc, and you've got a pretty good community going on.

As far as effort v reward ratio. Not too sure on this front. I appreciate having a good way to farm soldiery/myth/sands/oils. But it does break my heart a little to think of how much time i put in dungeons before hunt was implemented to get i90+.

And duty roulette? Pfft, what's that. Now i'm all for helping people with their duties, if i get a tell, or a friend asks etc. But queue into a dungeon, which can take ~40 mins, with complete strangers, who may or may not be total asshats, for a minimal reward of 100 myth. Or, go do hunts for an hour, cap myth, cap soldiery, buy sands or buy a complete i90 set for another class. It just makes sense.

Not that I'm happy about it entirely though. New/levelling players must be suffering. But, it's just not worth my time to do the roulettes now.

I like them, but they still need to limit these reward to spread the population across the week and to adjust the item costs/potentially remove logs or limit them to 1-3 per week and increase the bill rewards, specially for the weekly; maybe add 1 log + 50 Allied Seals as reward.

I'm part of a large hunt linkshell, and I very much enjoy the experience. My linkshell is huge, and we communicate very effectively about NM locations, but we're absolutely against early pulling. In fact, we kick linkshell members who are caught pulling early.

While I don't blame parties who just run up and pull NMs without waiting for more people, I also think it's kind of a D-bag thing to do. The system is set up now so that if you're in a party, and you're there at the start of a battle, you'll get full credit for the kill like 99 percent of the time. There's really no reason to pull early except for 1) impatience or 2) being a D-bag. I understand that some people want the thrill of "low-manning" content, but let's be real... the vast majority of early pulls simply result in the horde arriving slightly late, meaning you don't really get to low-man anything (all that really happens is a lot of people get deprived of myths/seals, and most of them aren't the idiots crying/screaming in shouts).

B rank early pulls are inconsequential. S rank fights kind of suck for everyone already, seeing as how the mob isn't even visible to most people.

For A rank pulls, though, there's really no good reason to pull them early, unless you're just really trying to be an Eorzean Hipster.

I'm actually enjoying Hunts when a majority of the server does them in an organized manner. Here on Excalibur they're fairly organized and enjoyable. Lots of communication and honestly I've seen little to no drama (only slight agitation for people not in communication, but honestly I notice more drama from the people who refuse to communicate)

Is it REALLY the content's fault that some people act like trash? It's not like we weren't told a dozen times how elite marks were intended to be fought. I like the existence of hunts; I don't like how they've been received. If I happen upon a b rank, I call my girlfriend or her brother and claim. Maybe I'm considered as asshole for this, but I tried the other way and when 3 dozen folks showed up, I told myself never again. I like the hunts, and honestly, I think less demand (or structured rewards) would do them a world of good.

    love it

I like the hunts as well, you can jump in and out when you need/want.

Been working with FC as well and have been awesome.

    Just a few tips:

    - Get like 3-5 LS that does hunts, you will get lot of positions of mobs and friends to hunts with.
    - When you hunt, just hunt. Don't do something else (like checking AH, mules, questing) since you will miss the mark.
    - Always hunt in full party. Easy to get credit.
    - Make macros to inform your LSs and FC about any Mark found, share the info.
    - Wait like 3 minutes before pulling.

Follow those easy instruction and enjoy.

    happy hunting

I've been told that because I have a full time job and a girlfriend, I wouldn't be useful in a hunting ls.

I'm not sure if I was being trolled, but would I seriously have to change my life by quitting my job, dumping my girlfriend (neither I would do) just to hunt.

Or is this an activity I can enjoy during my free time?

Maybe those people that get 2-3 sands per week are that hardcore but it's definitely not a requirement (don't join an LS that claims it is). I do sessions that could last anywhere from 1-3 hours. I skip days so I can work on other progression. I still have fun with those I play with and I've still been the first to spot a few and let the LS know.

I think an LS is to hunts as an FC is to the rest of the game. Not a requirement but having great people to play with only makes the game that much more fun.

Maybe it's just my server, but I love hunts; I've not felt this much a part of something in a long time. I was getting lonely in this game (no static) and even considered transferring, but not anymore. The server wide Teamspeak hundreds of us coordinate on is always pleasant and inclusive (anyone being a douche to randoms is chided). I've had a good time with most of the people in my hunt parties. I don't think I'd enjoy these without such a large community effort. This is the first time I haven't thought this community was completely full of awful people.

Even Galleon/Oondasta in WoW never felt this involved or coordinated.

Warm fuzzies aside, hunts are still gamebreaking and should never have been given top raid gear. I'm of the mindset only raiding should give the best gear. However, with no static, no one in PF, and being this late into the raid tier, I will continue to participate in hunts...if you can't beat 'em....
