If they had made Final Fantasy: Alterac Valley (the original Alterac valley) I think I would have been a little more happy about it. That gave a mix of PvE with PvP, and players kind of acted like a boss mechanic in and of themselves as they defended their NPC leaders.
I didn't play WoW but I pissed myself laughing at this.

Back to the topic, I find Frontlines really fun. I mainly play on DRG, if no one is on tank I go WAR. Healer I avoid because I am a garbage healer.
I don't like the "control the middle, control the game" mechanic though. The neutrals have too large an impact currently, in my opinion.
If your B team doesn't pull their weight, then the round is lost.
I've done FL twice as a WHM and just didn't have fun. As I suspected I was constantly interrupted while casting. The long cast time/global cooldown really shows in PvP.
Well, I can't speak for melees or healers, but I can say that for bard front lines is ridiculously fun. I actually look forward to my soldiery grind. I use my full range of abilities in both duels and larger encounters, and find the PvP skills to be useful but not overpowering. Healers are by far the hardest to take down, followed by tanks. The strategy emphasis in front line is also good fun, especially with 3-way combat. Lots of replay ability here, and the decision to exclude PvP gears and cap at i80 was brilliant and has made the game far more accessible.
I was thinking in going Bard next time I step into it for the reasons you cite. You have the best of both worlds - range and instants!Well, I can't speak for melees or healers, but I can say that for bard front lines is ridiculously fun. The only problem I have is that this makes PvP gear redundant considering FL is basically what you would call a battleground in another game and those are usually more popular than arenas for most players. There should be time taken to tweak FL before any other maps are introduced as they just suffer from the same systematic issues the old map does.
I was doing frontlines on BRD last night and it was so much fun, we go to take the temple, and see most of the Maelstrom there, hunting players down, kiting that Warrior so he couldn't hit me ahh the good times.I was thinking in going Bard next time I step into it for the reasons you cite. no I am talking about pvp in general in ff, frontlines and wolfsden. I played many MMO's and I think to compare FFXIV with other MMO's like WoW or Tera or Guildwars is legit. And for such a great game it lacks hard in terms of PvP, thats just a fact you cant denie.
I mean its my own opinion. If you enjoying PvP thats good, but I am not happy with it. There are too many things missing.
1. No Open PvP
2. No option to duel with other players
3. Latency is a big issue
4. Waitingtimes and stupid autoqueue when someone doenst accept the invite (last hotfix fixed it somewhat)
5. No Balance (as a Paladin you deal 0 dmg for example)
6. Autobalance on Itemlevel is the stupiest thing I ever heard. And its Copy&Pasta from Wildstar
1) open world PvP is a bad idea. PvP servers just become lop-sided and gankfests. There's no factions so it would have to be a free for all and that's just a disaster.no I am talking about pvp in general in ff, frontlines and wolfsden. 2) that would be fine I guess.
3) it's always an issue in PvP no matter the game.
4) as above.
5) That's always an issue too and I hate when PvP changes PvE in the name of balance. At least they do have spate rules for both PvE and PvP.
6) No, it's not. PvP should be about skill not how over geared you are. If that's why you do PvP, to win not because of skill but gear difference then you're a ganker and not a PvPer. Wildstar didn't invent that and it's paste not pasta.

1. Well Open PvP just worked fine in other MMO's why shall it not work here too? There are 3 factions by the way.
3. it wasnt such a big issue in tera, wow or guildwars for me and i got a 200mbit internet connection.
5. as i mentioned before they should create only pvp skills for each class.
1) I'd simply love to have open world PVP as it makes things a little more exciting. Though without a faction based system I don't see it working well in this game. Maybe later on the Grand Companies can serve as the faction baseline?no I am talking about pvp in general in ff, frontlines and wolfsden. 2) Needs this deffo
3) As it always is
4) See above
5) I believe the devs went into this without a full comprehension on how PVP works or should work. As far as i know SE doesn't have a lead PVP developer? Correct me if I'm wrong but if they don't. This needs to change.
6) No, its not. That's just how PVP works. Using item level as a crutch to win doesn't make someone a PVP'er. it makes them a win trader or clipper/ganker player, no skill or honor what-so-ever. No it's also not copied from Wildstar. Its been the standard in PVP systems in every modern MMO game since Warcraft
