Duty Finder and the NA regional servers

Sometimes you just have to see for yourself.

From the beginning I stuck in the Japanese server group because I had a feeling NA would be full of selfish, entitled idiot players with bad attitudes. I guess an easier way to say it would be toxic, but that buzzword is annoying these days, I hear.

I decided to give it a shot. Last week I made a character on Jenova just to get a feel for the NA server group.

On Masamune, I had only had a bad experience in duty finder about three times in 6 months. This past week on Jenova? About four already. A tank left after one pull in a lowbie dungeon, likely used duty roulette and wanted a fast run. Two instances of petty arguments with players acting like children, flinging accusations and boasting like I've never seen before. Last, my black mage friend got kicked after the first boss of brayflox normal because he was a "noob." When I stopped attacking mobs in response, I was a noob, too. When confronted they acted like a couple of immature jocks with buck teeth in high school. I simply left after some choice sarcastic words.

All the time I see complaints in these forums about bad duty finder experiences, and it makes me wonder. Why do we, as NA players, suck so much?

Nothing new. Na servers are usually the cesspools for horrible players.

I usually don't run into many "toxic" players, but it is rather annoying when you get grouped with some.

In low level dungeons it's really annoying to see people hate, argue, insult, or just leave because "A new person is new to this duty" pops up (or kick the new person). It's an instant indicator that the run may not go perfectly smoothly or particularly quickly (especially if the new person is a genuinely new tank). Some people are very self absorbed, if it doesn't go how they want it to then it's not worth doing in their minds. It's not very fun when you play with them.

Sounds more like bad luck than any kind of pattern, really.

On Monday, I did my High Roulette and got Halatali HM. Cleared it without incident, polite conversation along the way. Someone even went AFK for a couple of minutes and no one got mad.

We danced and lit off fireworks while we waited.

I then did the Low Roulette and got Aurum Vale - with an under lv 50 tank. Wiped once on the second boss when the healer and the cyclops became friends, but no one pointed any fingers. We tried again, and made it through. Didn't wipe on the final boss, and everyone was quite nice to each other.

Sure, some people suck. But don't let a few bad experiences sour you on an entire community.

Try initiating conversations. Provide some friendly antics. People are generally pretty nice once you get them to open up.

I always get surprised when people talk about toxicity on the forums.

They always give off the impression that 90% of the community are complete dickheads, and there are barely any nice players.

Since playing since beta, I could count the amount of toxic players I have run into on 2 hands over that almost 1 year period.

Maybe I'm just lucky with my DF groups, but I do think that people like to exaggerate quite a lot

I think/know a lot of Americans are more direct and to the point - couple this with online anonymity and you get people gunning at others with insults more easily. The JP on the one hand don't personally degrade you if you do something wrong (you get one or two who finally check the Party list and see and "E" among them and mention it in chat and even then this is rarely done - they would rather take the non-confrontational stance of ending duty instead of vote-kicking). The worse I've gotten from a JP party during my first T5 via the DF was "Not possible with Mr. White" versus in a full English party during Ifrit Ex where the other healer and the summoner called the tank a plebe fa@#$ for watching the cutscenes...so you end up going "J"all the time in duty finder which is bad...it means I'm isolating all the good English players that I know ARE out there (aside from my friends).

Leveling the white mage through dungeons, the only issue I had for multiple runs were roulette tanks halfassing it with just a flash and then me grabbing aggro after a cure. Didn't go out of my way to cause trouble because no one was dying

Well that and the one tank who pulled the entire frog room in darkhold, stood near the cliff to die instantly from their knockback, and then left us because odin popped.

My experience with 50+ dungeons has been somewhat happy and stress/wipe free

Sometimes I wonder if we're playing different games OP >.< I can't even remember the last time I had a "toxic" run in a roulette. I guess I'm just lucky....

This entire post scream pretension, something tells me you got out what you put in. The Japanese are no better or worse than anyone else, despite what certain dedicated and enthusiastic fan bases would have one boolieve.

When I Played on Japanese servers, all my bad experience were with English speaking players from Masamune. LAWL

Japanese servers have less "loudly rude" people but they're also full of "silent ragers" who will be terrible and silently never speak. they won't take advice and think you're being annoying even if you're being polite and helpful. if you try to discuss a strategy that isn't their "norm" they will think you're a weirdo and ignore you.

So don't paint the Japanese players as these angels, there's good and bad players in every server group. It just so happens that the English speaking ones are more vocal about it which makes them stand out more. Do you speak Japanese? If not, then you have no idea about some of the terrible things they say about foreign players being "landmines".
