If people are going to do AFK or AWOL, I would recommend dismiss them from duty to replace, it is a basic solution.

And here is someone who has clearly never tried to vote dismiss someone in Frontlines.

It's nigh impossible since you'll almost always be engaged in combat (be it either your group, or one of the other groups in the alliance), which prevents you from using the vote dismiss menu.
