Why have Vote Kick if it's almost entirely abused?

We need more options for vote kick and no timers.

I joined an SV last night with my DPS (trying to hit 50 on BLM). From the start our tank was DC'd. So, after 5 minutes I vote kicked him, we waited another 5 on a replacement...

I asked my party vote kick me, so that I could bring on my pally and at least take them through the dungeon. It worked, and I was back in a minute later. We got a replacement DPS (a bard) who almost immediately disconnected. There were no vote kicks left (other person on cooldown), they did eventually come back, and we finished anyways.

I'd like to see options like Disruptive, or Lazy, and a cooldown removal. It's not fair to ask a team to carry people who won't even make the minimum effort to perform their role correctly, and this should be a valid reason for dismissal. You can try to talk and reason with them, and the average response is either vitriol or silence.

I can certainly see this being toxic in Pug 8-man,s but those are hella toxic anyways.

Honestly? You say "helpful" but they might have read it as "patronising", and your comments you quoted at the end certainly were. I wouldn't vote kick you but I wouldn't particularly want to group with you again either.

I do however feel that there is a need for there to be more options in the vote kick process. It would be good to be able to differentiate types of harassment ie rudeness from bad language from sabotage.

I have never seen it abused actually, seen a couple try but it didn't pass. I tend to be the forefront of explaining, joking, or calling out people who are ignoring mechanics (<player> can you please <mechanic>) and I have never been vote kicked before. I also sometimes ooze sarcasm, a few people have taken it the wrong way but someone corrects them and I have never seen hasty kicks even then.

I stay polite but some people are touchier than others, I have gotten healers mad at me when i tell them how to do their job in certain fights, I have had tanks tell me "it doesn't work that way", and dps tell me to shut up but none of them have tried to kick me. I'm not sure how people come across the conclusion that it is always abused based on often a single, maybe two, instances.

Two core issues here I think:
1. Who should have to leave the group (and instance): 1 player causing a problem, or multiple players who don't want to put up with the problem?
2. Who decides what is correct use vs. abuse? Obviously there will be different results depending who decides.

Vote Dismiss gives the majority the upper hand in both cases.

OP put in that most uses of Vote Dismiss were abuse. Personally, nearly every use I've seen has been correct. /shrug

Honestly, disruptive or lazy could easily qualify as harassment IF you try to reason with them and ask them to change their behavior. If you've taken the diplomatic approach and they have refused to behave, that is a case of harassment. The key is never be aggressive. In the event that they try to challenge the vote kick as wrongful, you don't want to appear antagonizing or harassing yourself when the GM's investigate.

On another note, another one of my favorite abuses of the vote kick is the player who roulettes into a dungeon that they don't want to do, and rather than leaving and taking the penalty, will just afk for 5 minutes to get kicked so they get no penalty at all. If they're dumb enough to actually SAY that's what they're doing, I'll go with the harassment kick and follow it up with a GM report.

I'm new and have yet to see anyone kicked but based on past games its absolutely essential to have some way to kick afk people without having to re-queue.

I guess I just don't see that abuse happening. I've only used it to dismiss people that are either AFK or Offline. On the rare occasion when you have a tank that refuses to actually even try to tank and doesn't listen to "hey, use flash? and enmity combo?" I've personally never used it for "abuse" and have never even seen someone else do vote dismiss inappropriately in any group I've been in.

The shameful thing about vote dismiss... apparently there is no penalty to those that are dismissed. I've kicked an AFK person out only to have them rejoin the group seconds later by using join party in progress.

That is the other issue with the vote dismiss feature. Even if it doesn't give them a penalty for joining another group, it should block them from rejoining the same group. Couple weeks back I was doing a ST run. We had a whm that just stayed afk at the entrance. We vote kicked, they came back, stayed at the entrance. Vote kicked, they came back. And the process repeated again and again til we were stuck with them. And the story ends with the healer body dropping, them need winning it, then remaining afk til after Xande was dead. A report was filed, likely several. But who knows what came of it?
