But why should my group be forced to wait 5 minutes to get a new person after we got rid of someone who was causing my group grief? What is wrong with getting a new replacement as soon as possible? Heck, why should people that use the vote kick responsibly get punished because other people don't use it properly?

If people wanted you gone for the stupidest reasons, chances are they were going to be unpleasant to play with anyway.

On top of what Miles is saying in the post above mine, a 5 min kick penalty is pointless. It would absolutely cause more harm than good. People who are truly willing to kick someone for such inane and/or asshole-ish reasons (i.e. "I don't like his gear", etc) are not going to be phased by a 5-minute penalty. They're going to do it anyway. So all it would do is force people who kicked for legit reasons to wait.

The only way to make it sting for "bad kickers" would be to make it much more than 5 minutes... which would royally screw over people who kick for legit reasons and then have to wait out the penalty (ON TOP of waiting for the replacement, if the jerk that got legit kicked wasn't DPS).

Looking at what you posted, and filling in what I imagine are the bits you left out (no way that was the start of your sarcasm, it was the end of their patience with said sarcasm), I would have kicked you too. It's definitely your approach. I was in the same exact situation last week - random dungeon, three people new to the dungeon, all of them on skype with each other and clearly entertained. It wasn't an easy dungeon, either... Sunken Temple. After we wiped on the Terotaur I realized they were new, so I explained mechanics, we won the second time, and one shot the following bosses. I didn't get kicked.

I'll let you figure out what the difference probably was. Here's a hint: it has to do with approach.

I agree with the above poster be nice and most people will reciprocate. My friend is leveling a second character through the story, he got to titan and everyone was new and wiped. He explained all the mechanics in a friendly manner and they completed it next try. Three player commendations. People hate sarcasm especially if it sound like you're talking down to them and while I think kicking was an overreaction I don't think it was an abuse.

I'm a tank, get instant queued, done a ton of dungeons and i have NEVER seen anyone get kicked O.O. so I don't get this issue you are talking about.
Only time i seen kicked been use is when someone goes offline for 2/3+ mins.

All of these 'I offer help and newbies dont want it!' threads (thats essentially what this is, also being mad about being kicked) are ridiculous. I've explained mechanics and jobs to people so many times and each time the response is 'thanks for the help!' Being sarcastic and condescending is going to count as harrassment enough for vote kick.

I cant think of any group I've been in where the vote kick was abused. Its used to get rid of afkers, or people that dc'd, or the rude and trolls. I dont want to go back to launch, where you'd go into CM, both healers afking, a tank afk, dps want to pull everything and troll, and you only have 3-4 people actually trying to do the dungeon properly and earn their tomes.

Speaking of this I was in a tam tara run the other day with 2 new 50 people (DPS and healer) I already sensed that this run was going to fail when nothing was dying at any pace. It seemed the summoner didn't put any Dot's and pretty much stood around auto attacking, but I managed to put out enough to get us through to the final boss and pretty much by myself was unable to stop the zombies from getting to the center of the room. We wipe twice and on the third time I use limit break to attempt to kill the boss and the tank decides to flame me saying we should of used tank limit break???????? Furthermore the new healer and smn didn't avoid any aoe's in the entire fight and strangely the major attack from the boss was not what killed them but the following aoes. The tank continues to flame me about MY DPS (considering I had been carrying the entire run I took offense and pointed out it was not my fault people didn't dodge aoe's and just stood around and then was promptly vote kicked)

Previous to this run I have never seen a zombie get to the center of the room let alone 3!!!

I'm sure whoever replaced me in that dungeon wouldn't of cleared It for them too and I hope that they wasted another 30 mins wiping to that boss as I got a join in progress and completed my daily roulette almost instantly after that. Vote kicking abuse is nasty and I wish all the worst things in the world to happen to anyone that does it.

Yeah... I have to agree. When I'm in a DF party and we wipe on stupid things (possibly things that I've already explained), I bitch about the situation either on FC channel or Vent, but I'm all smiles on party chat. "That's alright, we'll try it again. We'll get it this time. :3" Seems to work for the most part. *shrugs*

There's something to be said for just dusting yourself off and trying it again.

Your comment could have been taken the wrong way. You can't express emotion in your text, so that's probably where it went wrong. Normally, I try to make it seem like everyone's fault, nobody's fault, and sometimes my fault (because it usually is). I try to lay it down easy and be positive. A lot of people are sensitive, for what reasons I don't understand (because, come on, you're on the Internet), though I myself sometimes have those days that I fail so horribly that I'm pessimistic, or whatever. okay a

Regardless, I'll give you a tl;dr. Be positive and make everyone feel generally okay about the failure. It's okay to get angry, but don't express this in chat and don't single anyone out, it's not a great idea and can end in this.

As for the vote kick system, frankly I love it. While I can't say I use the same reason sometimes, it still proves incredibly useful.

The current system is flawed in that it doesn't actually solve anything, but instead just shifts problems around to make it look like it does.
For every justified afk kick there is one unjustified kick vote. We need a far more elaborate system that tracks player behaviour and protects good players while making it easier to kick notorious troublemakers. A system with more permanent effects could encourage people to actually play together instead of fighting each other over who's fault that last wipe was. Of course those troublemakers will insist that eversthing is fina and you should just "buckle up", which is nonsense, and they know it.
