Just like IRL, its only a depression to those who choose not to get out and work for their money. Take up some DoH or DoL classes find what is selling, get it and start making money. No one is going to hand you 1 million Gil for sitting on your butt. You'll get out of this game what you put in. You don't want to put in, you won't get anything in return. There are no government hand outs in this game. Make something of yourself.

I wish they would implement new recipes that needed existing materials, as opposed to new ones. You can tell, by looking at the market board, what materials have one or two recipes (usually useless or unpopular recipes).

Even better, allow us the option to replace existing ingredients with others of the same type (for example, using a different type of sinew for a recipe). I would think giving buyers more options would help some of the more currently useless materials to sell better.

FWIW they did a little bit of this in this patch. The new gathering/crafting accessories are fairly useful and they use the previously-garbage Mosshorns and Uraeus skins and the not-as-garbage Dodore Wings. Desynthesis also made more demand for random items that may be part of inexpensive recipes or those that use a small amount of materials.

Like Diablo 3, game went dead after 6mths bcoz items were sold at 100million - 999billion gil...
till they decided to close the "auction house" a year later.

Its a similar situation in FF now, even with gil sellers banned,
how can any1 afford a 500k Materia IV where a dungeon runs only yield 4k gil?
    run it a 100times? lolx

You should realize that their are many other options to making gil in this game. 500k at this time, is very easy to make. The first thing you should do is change your approach to making gil, not change the system.

while I don't feel the market board is broken, I wouldn't say 500k gil was easy to make for most people. I recently spent most of my gil on lvl 50 goldsmith and fisher gear and the accessory melds - I was very very unlucky on overmelds that fail animation is heartbreaking lol. I now have to get back a lot of gil to continue and it's going to take me quite a while with the way I get gil. I'm not complaining, I'll get there, I just don't see how some people think it's so easy to make that much money in a heartbeat.

Edit. I spent the day mining, making ingots, gathering with a little spirit bonding and put the resulting produce on the market board. I made about 150k so I guess I could make 500k in about three days. Unfortunately I can spend it in less than an hour lol. A lot of things sell slowly though and quite a few had instant undercuts such as my gatherer's grasp IV which always has four or five materia cheaper than it and even when I lower the price the same four people will undercut within seconds so that is a fierce market o_O

The market was never worked, and has been broken since day one.

    1. Cannot place BUY listing
    2. "Demand" indicator is always on, hence giving false indication if the original person never turned it off
    3. Crafted items are mostly useless, since game gives better gear at zero cost to the players (200K+ for iL90, when you can do 1 hunt and get the same for free)
    4. Uneven material drops, iL70 gears material can have 50 listings (2K gils) for one gear, while 0 for another (100K gil).
    5. No sales trend, real history, reports, or any way for suppliers to know the real trend of the market

EVE-Online hired real economists to control/adjust their game/loot/drop rate so their economy stays stable, XIV ARR is far from having a working market.

    1. You're right, no buy listing. But we do have the demand indicator to let sellers know what buyers want more(cheaper) of

    2. Demand indicators are not always on, they get turned off at maintenance and have to be manually turned on again.

    3. Crafted items are typically better than the same level counterparts, WHEN properly melded. The problem is that cost/effort to get materia makes this unreasonable for the vast majority of players

    4. By material drops, are you referring to all the items you can buy from the Grand Company with seals?

    5. You mean the game needs something like this to help sellers know what a fair and competitive price to sell is, and how often items are selling?

    This statement is dead accurate.
