Somehow, i get this feeling that SUM only wanted pets with burst heavy damage
Or utility, but yeah. I feel Summoners burst damage should come the Summon. Fester bugs me, but I don't really have any great ideas for a replacement pet centric skill that ties in with the SMN so... :/
Oi here we go again. First of all, everyone's opinion is relevant. That's what makes it an opinion. Secondly, don't compare FF version of Summoner to cheap ripoffs with the same name in other games. There is no "archetype" because Summoner has always been different. Sure they share common abilities and the fact that they can summon, but it's been created differently in almost every FF. Saying that SMN doesn't fit the mold is ignorance on your part. No changes need to be made, the job is one of the top DPS and all that's really needed is a job specfic LB that allows us to summon a primal which will more than likely give that SMN feel to the job that you're referring to. Also, there are no Affliction Warlock jobs in the history of FF so wtf would they change one of their most popular jobs to one that's never even been in the series?
City of Villians Mastermind is a great example of what a pet class should be.
I think SMN is overall fine the way it is, although I don't play it myself so I don't think I would really have a huge say in this type of discussion anyways.
Although I do think it would have been interesting if instead of SMN being completely pet by your side all the time style, if it would have been more burst/combo type damage style where the egis are summoned for a few moments to do a certain attack or something like that. Like for example Ifrit egi bursting out in front of the SMN and clawing the enemy followed by titan egi appearing above the enemy and slamming down on them and then garuda egi popping up in front of the smn and blasting the enemy with a ball of wind. Stuff like that.
Although that would obviously not work anyways due to the fact that SMN comes off of ACN which has the whole pet-based thing.
Balance is a requirement in MMOs, not an option. Forgo it and you're in for a world of disaster. People that ignore balance and throw around random ideas is one major reason as to why developers don't even consider ideas like yours. They aren't always doing the best job at it but it sure beats the unbalanced ideas around here.
A game that hasn't been shutdown (for financial reasons no less) would be a much better example.
