it's because some player play tons of hours, for be more accurate. the trouble is not that player rush through content. it's they try to make content that are adapted to hardcore player, with tons of play time. sadly it cover less of 10% of the community, leaving the other with no other choice than try to find rush technic for catch up.
don't get me wrong even if the content was less grind they will still try to rush it. the trouble is not new, but i guess the problem was never face directly.

what keep player play mmorpg actually? loot, get the shinies you want.

let's look the trouble for other game type like FPS, why player continue to play? they don't have loot! why? maybe it's time to find a new way to keep player occuped, by give us content that have a high replayability, not because of the loot, but because of the fun factor, that something that was hard to make until recently. i'm not idiot to the point to say we must get ride of the loot, but maybe add another layer to the reason of why play stay on the game can solve a looooot of trouble.

instead to look back to what we was getting in the old game, maybe look around and try to find what can be used from the other game.

but i'm still hopefull, with the last live letter they are clearly trying to make us a good chocobo race, if they do it well (and not like a small mini game) it can be a really interesting thing to play. game like mario kart get never old with many player, and in a mmorpg you have tons of player!
