    a pretty serious question

    which game are we playing? FFXI-2 or FFXIV:ARR? because recently i really begin to wonder.

    a lot of recent content come directly from FFXI and they are not adapted to FFXIV worst it hurt the game and create a lot of balance issue. without forget Yoshida change what he did said in the past, when he did promise this game will never become a grindfest like FFXI.

    what did happend for a so big change of direction into the game? are we still playing FFXIV or not?

    What I'm thinking, since unless the world is Vanadiel, it's kind of impossible to be playing a sequel where the world is completely different. I mean, when we played Resident Evil 2 there were plenty to link back to Resident Evil 1.

    We've danced this dance before. You know fully well that when people ask for the FFXI NMs they aren't asking for popped NMs, but asking for camping for hours and a claim system. And yes, that IS utter crap because instead of actually playing the game I'm stuck in a zone waiting for something to pop.

    See, that's where the disconnect is: Most people who played XI likely played it up to and through Abyssea prior to XIV as Abyssea was 2009 content, long after XI moved to Popped NMs for most systems. While like or hate Abyssea, it's when XI started changing even more, so when people speak of XI prior to it, they don't always mean "free roam" NMs, because at least since late 2005 things changed past that aside land kings. Most rare items even moved to BCNM/KSNMs at that point. You're just speaking as if no one is talking about the improved systems that even existed in XI since not even XI largely uses a 'free roam' system for NMs that matter anymore.

    It's not a grind.

    Let me name a few things from FFXI that doesn't even come close to anything of grind level in FFXIV.

    Relic weapons- you needed tons of byne bills to even finish this, our shell took 4 years, in FFXIV already have it.
    Mythic weapons - can't do them alone and have a LS and farm like a psycho
    Levels before abyss which were level max was 75, I remember the days of halls of the gods nightmares death and bored out of my mind.
    Farming Gil slow.

    I could keep going, nothing in FFXIV is the same as FFXI except some monsters and few similar things.

    But as for mechanics gameplay nope.

    Relic weapons in FFXI also meant something. While collecting old currency was a pain, in the time you spent in the area where you got it, with semi good luck you got 1/3 of the bills you needed for one of the early level ups, gear drops, and most every run had a fun story to tell others who missed it. FFXIV Atma 3 hours, you either have 0 drops or are a lucky pos and get all drops, your weapon stops to glow and doesn't get better bar iLvL.

    I welcome that they introduced "FFXI like" content in FFXIV, the hunts gave Eorzea at elast a BIT of teeth because you can't just rush in with your chocobo on everything you see anymore and expect an 100% win.

    A lot of good things, already present in FFXI, where players begged for years to get it, again isn't included in FFXIV. Hell even the things blizzard changed are left out in ffxiv, while it is obvious that certain parts are from WoW (that is NOT a bad thing), which would benefit the players.

    And now the ffxi hater stars a flame thread.

    We are playing a FF so get used to ppl asking for other FF features, if you don't like it you can always play wow, but we will keep trying to make this game more ff and less wow, deal with it.
