I'd wait until the game's re-rendered hardware wise D: there's still some poor coding done by SE. But they'll fix those issues. But it's up to you.

I'm on a GTX460 as well and it's just doing fine, the rest of my rig is pretty medi-core but nothing superior and I can play it. I'm gonna freak out though if SE is rising the #'s of displayed models/stuff and my gtx won't make up for that =3.
But I doubt that, that will be fixed by changing the RAM I spose.

Oh I haven't checked those PC rig links yet. Are there SSD somewhere? That thing made up some huge perfomance boost on my FFXIV D: or at least it feels like it.

My 2x GTX 460 machine runs FFXIV just as well as my machine with a single 580. You can get the 460's around $150 vs $500+ for a 580.

The only problem with dual video cards on SLI or Crossfire is that FFXIV can't use both cards when in windowed mode, unless they changed that. Do you play fullscreen?

The micro stuttering is also a problem. Depends on the mode though.

Dude learn to build your own. It's so easy..
Buy each component individually, put it together and bam.
Check the techpowerup forums "google it"
for advice on what parts to buy within what range. They'll help you out. ^^
Guarantee you end up with a better pc, that costs you less, than anything you buy from a vendor.

With drivers 275.33 I'm running full screen 1920x1080 (v-sync needs to be forced on), 4x aa, 8, 3, Shadows Lowest, Texture Q High, Texture F Highest, and in game shadows and dust turned off. Only issue I encounter is when changing wards it'll skip a second or two if i start moving to soon after zoning, other then that it's flawless everywhere else.

But is it using both GPUs or do you just know it runs smoothly? I run a 250 GTS with settings that are the same if not higher and it's completely smooth, so it's not too farfetched that the performance you're seeing is from a single GPU. Do you have a GPU activity monitor? I'm curious because I'd love to SLI two 400 series cards when I upgrade.

Yeah with SLI you should definately be able to run much higher settings than that. And window mode support SLI/CF depends on the game. Sadly ffxiv is one if the crappily coded games that don't seem to support it(I thought I had it running in windowed CF a few times but never got it to work again till now).

Yes it is using both GPU's you can tell by running the built in SLI Visual Indicator, or even run a simple GPU Monitor.

The first thing you want to be sure of before choosing the video card, is the resolution you are going to run on, what size monitor you have and it's native resolution. Anything 19" and below will run @ 1440x900 to lower these resolutions does not hurt the cards much, once you step up to 20"- 23" most run @ 1680x1050 this resolution will still be okay for the low end cards, if you step up to 24"-27" its @ 1920x1080 some are 1920x1200 you need to step it up a little mid range - high end cards are good. Now if you are going to run on 30" it will have a native resolution of 2560x1600 or like what i am running 3x 24" on eyefinity which runs on 5760x1080 w/o bezel compensation, with compensation its 5936x1080 then you'll want something really beefy. If u are going to run on HDTV 1080p most of them are based of 1920x1080 resolution as well. There is a sweet spot to video cards but sadly they are nowhere around the low end cards they are in the mid range.

forgot another tip if the video card only comes with a heat sink and no fan don't try to game on it =D specially not FFXIV
