Simple question and want to know what the comunity thinks. Why does mages, SCH/WMH/SMN/BLM, have to choose between PIE, DET, SS, or CRIT while melee just choose between DET, CRIT and SS. Why not add some gear for melee that dont have VIT?

I love the official forums, they tell you to use the search for thread about what you wanted to talk but when you use it they judge for necro a thread.
Because being melee is unforgiving enough already. :L
Yeah, I have to agree, mages don't have to be in the enemy's face near as much as melees. And you seem to have your stats mixed. Melees don't have to worry much about skill speed at all, but without accuracy they may as well just stand there talking. I do agree with the crit and determination, though.
All classes get VIT on their weapons and left side armour, and for any NQ crafted/common gear is at it's maximum. Knowing how much HP a particular job has based on expected entry requirements, allows battles to be designed like they are.
PIE, on the other hand, is only present on certain armours for WHM and SCH, and is something that is optional. For some, PIE can be a decent stat choice if they feel they may need more MP, which makes them less likely to need Ballad support (and if you don't have a Bard for that, your MP is precious).
Hmm, I always choose just one stat per class/job, that one stat that your class trait enhances.
We get to choose another main stat, and they don't get to choose.

PIE is not on caster gear. So they fit the same mold as melee.
Healers are a whole different bracket of balancing from DPS and the system as it stands is well-balanced.
Healers seldom worry about acc, and mage dps seldom worry about pie, so it's still 3 stats to "worry" about on any given role
I always choose pie. Even as a melee.
I think it's because the "Linear Warriors, Quadratic Wizards" trope is in effect.
