quests suck because all the are, are running around. anima or not, those aren't interesting in any way. Free MMOs have more story-line-rich quests than FFXIV does. And when you compare it to FFXI there is NO comparison. Its like every ffxiv quest is one of the repeatable fame-generating ffxi quests with no story.
Mew!

The main reason I don't find the quests engaging is because they're all tl;dr scenarios. I don't want to spend my time reading, I want to spend my time playing (people don't buy porn magazines for the articles).

I found myself sucked into the Grand Company quests stories pretty quickly, even though it is really just a sampler now. Combining these with Main Scenario and Unique and interesting class quests, my hunger for story is pretty sated.
Side-Quests seem to serve their purpose well enough as just being something fun and silly to do on the side in your down time. As for the rewards, I don't know if they should jack them up with huge sp or gil to make them worth while, but a fame/progression system for side-quests would be very welcome. Of course then most people would just grind through them as fast as possible, which seems kind of cheap, but everyone should be able to play however they want.
as for a suggestion though!
I believe the Star Onion Brigade needs to make an appearance soon
As others have said, they're getting progressively better at them (was nice to see Merlywb (?) show up in one this patch), and I imagine once more resources are freed up from some of the more pressing content, we can expect more flavour put into the sidequests.
For now though, they're nice extra content.
Besides, I'd rather they sort the main storylines out before investing in these, the volume of main missions from 1-50 definitely needs to be upped so there aren't huge level gaps between story segments.
