Should MP cost be linked to your current class?

For instance: Using Cure II as a Gladiator would cost them 80MP, but for a Conjurer, it would cost about 40MP. Then...maybe while you're a Paladin, it would cost less since that job will have a stronger focus on white magic than a Gladiator would.

And maybe the higher your Conjurer rank, the less MP it would take while you're in a different class. They could possibly introduce a skill mastery system. The higher level your skill is, the more useful it is while you're in a different class. Ah, idk, these are just some ideas.

P.S: they should totally give us the traditional names for spells (cure ii = cura, cure iii = curaga, curaga = curaja?)

EH...part of me says yeah its a good idea, but then you are gimping dd/tank who need a cure during an "oh sh*t moment" since they are typically low in the mnd department, being low in the mnd department means your low in the mag def too i believe, and that just means if they get nuked or any magic cast on them they might need to have their cure waiting, while a mage also cures them just in case. I would love to have lessened mp cost for roles during jobs, whm= less mp for curing/enhancing, blm=less for nuking, pld= less for w/e defensive or white magic spells he might have (what if they make him like knight from ffIII and he doesn't have magic only cover and stuff >.<, what if blm coming from thm only uses "dark" magic and not like elemental nukes and we all facepalm haha)

(thinking about curaja makes me think like "cast curaja" "instantly dies from hate" haha)

But aren't stats being adjusted with they get rid of physical levels? Sure a Gladiator can cast Cure II, but it won't be nearly as effective as it is now.

Also, isn't magic defense only directly related to the armor you have on? So it shouldn't be effected.

Sorry I don't agree with this, simply because DoW classes already have a smaller mp pool. The costs of cures just need to be reduced. I understand they needed to be raised but they overshot it.

I think jobs will probally be the answer to this. PLD and WHMS will have a lower mp usage for healing spells and such. But, I really don't know what will happen when they remove our physical level.

Been lots of dev posts on this... easiest info I can tell you to look up is poll results... they're doing EXACTLY what won out. Removing physicals and each class you'll be able to distribute points. Points allowed to be allowed will be dependent on rank and as you rank up you'll get more to spend^^ Oh and I really should say level up and experience points instead of sp and rank up :P Since those getting changed too thankfully with this change as well ... You prob didn't mean just stat points but meh, just decided to explain anyways just incase, those posts are pretty buried and poll results are from forever ago >.<

Are you sure? The whole rank and sp thing wouldn't make sense without exp and physical levels...especially with levels and exp being more traditional terms. I'd gladly welcome that change

The MP costs are perfectly fine. It is already no longer viable to sufficiently heal yourself on a DoW in a prolonged fight, effectively reducing solo-ability of mobs that were not meant to be soloed.

Also it makes it so mages can't just spam their heals and have to think more about MP management.

They did not overshoot it. They got it just right. Besides, once they implement the ability to cast spells while in passive mode, which they confirmed in the 1.18 patch notes, mages will be regenerating MP constantly since they won't have to go active. If you reduce MP costs along with this, we go right back to square one.
