Perhaps they intended it to be done a certain way, but that's not actually how it's designed. Since everyone can share full credit if they generate enough enmity, it's designed to allow an infinite number of groups to cooperate and coordinate the destruction of every mark in the world. Which is exactly what people have done.
Apparently SE thought folks would be more selfish? I guess they envisioned roving bands of 8 people wandering the world (as a tightly packed group, not even spread out to search) and not talking to anyone other than themselves unless an S rank spawned. It's... pretty weird. And not even close to well thought out. If they wanted only small numbers of people to do it, they should have made it phased content and/or not made the rewards so ridiculously good. Even if you don't care about sands/oils, it still drops ridiculous amounts of soldiery/myth for little effort.
Yes, it's definitely gotten worse. Last weekend I could still see these things as long as I got close. This weekend... I "saw" Mindflayer for the first time, but then he quickly disappeared into a pocket dimension as a spot where I suspect he used to be turned into a giant pulsing orb of white light as Holy and Ring of Thorns were spammed infinitely. This continued for several minutes before someone decided he might maybe be dead and we left. That 5 seals was totes worth it.
