    FFXIV region lock problems

My fiance had an australian account, and plays on a North American Ps4 using a NA PSN account. We have purchased several games and have a large spend already. We have 0 desire to redo the PSn account.

I purchased her a copy of FFXIV on PS4 so she can play on that, and the game won't allow her to log in. Saying she has to have a european psn account.

This means, we have to get Sony to refund the game, and the ONLY options we have are to make a new PSN account, and buy the game there, requiring her to have two PSN accounts.

Is there a reason this game has to be region locked? It's on a north american ps4, in north america, living in north america, but because the game was 1.0 EU account we're stuck in this situation...

Where you bought your hardware and where you live aren't relevant to your PSN account region. My brother plays PSO2, which is only JP at the moment, on his NA VITA. But to do so he needs a JP PSN account and all dlc and the game itself are locked to the his JP account. So if the game you originally bought for your fiance was bought on a EU account that means you bought an EU game >.>

I think the only difference I've managed to spot between the European and American version of the game is that the American one shows a huge splash screen of the ESRB rating before letting you into the menu.

The issue is that you can buy a NA FFXIV on a NA PS4 and be unable to play the game because SE region locks it so that an american copy of the game can't play an australian account. This is something they can easily fix if they wanted to. I understand if you bought an EU copy of FFXIV for PS4 trying to play it on a NA account. but if you buy it on a NA ps4, with the NA psn, you should be able to play any FFXIV account you have.

Or SE should at least have a solution to help

Dude.. I feel your pain. SE has the worst customer service and yeah, they could remove the locks but don't look for that to happen. Don't count on help from SE because you're not going to get it.

I unfortunately have an EU account but live in the US but since SE refuses to change regions or unlock, I have to pay in GBP and jump through hoops to get EU copies of the game. Do you know how many vendors refuse to sell to the US because you're not in their region? Quite a lot of them.

If she already has a character that she doesn't want to lose, she needs a copy of the game for the correct region listed under her SE account. This also means that you will need to create a new PSN account for that region. Does is suck? Absolutely. But until SE does something about this, we have to jump through the hoops.

Yeah but having to manage 2 PSN accounts, which means separate trophies ... friends lists, etc. Anyone you meet on FFXIV will have to friend you on that PSN and not the main one you already purchased a lot of items on .. plus the PS4 was already registered to the NA PSN.

This is something that isn't on Sony to fix - it's SEs software. SE can issue a patch to the 14 client that lets any account play on any copy of the game once its installed. This is not talking registering a copy of the game, this is letting you log in. If your account is flagged as having PS4 access, you should be able to log into a PS4 whether it is NA or EU or AU or JP. The thing is, it's not even region locked to the PS4, it's region locked ot the PSN account. But why? She can play on an american PC just fine.

Just to clarify, as far as SE is concerned, AU = part of EU, as are most non North American countries other than Japan. The only time it does not get counted with the rest of EU as far as SE is concerned is when they're doing competitions that specify only about 4 EU countries (usually involving physical prizes, we can enter the EU screenshot for choker competitions for example). SE only separates the world into 3 places: NA, EU and JP. Soon there will be a 4th, China, but that's it.

It is more that the SE account is region-locked (you can't register a euro version on an NA account even with PC).
So the players pay with € having an euro account and with $ having an NA account.

Well you can play on a NA version of FFXIV using a EU account, you just can't register it those serial #s
The PS4 actually won't let you log in at all. Or has someone found a workaround for this?

And if posts aren't made about these issues they never get fixed.
