Unable to download patch/Update patch files

So took a break from the game and decided to give the free weekend a try before resubbing, unfortunately I have hit a bit of brick wall.

Im having to download 4GB worth of updates but seem to get stuck randomly and the download wont progress any further until I restart the launcher and will again randomly stop sometimes after a few hundred MB or sometimes after nothing has downloaded at all, on the off chance it seems to be okay I then get an error telling me it cant patch the files. This second error appears to happen at the 1.7GB mark everytime.

I have run in admin, compatibility, turned off firewall, tried unchecking the "read-only" option on the game folder (which just reverts back to its original option after hitting "apply/ok").

I have also deleted the patch files under user/mydocuments/mygames/ffxiv/patch etc, this just causes me to redownload everything and still hit the same errors.

Should note that everything else internet related works perfectly fine with no issues its just FFXIV.

Not had this issue before when I was playing so I dont think I have done anything to cause this.

Any ideas or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Just to update, the only thing that worked in the end was a complete uninstall and reinstall. No idea what the real cause was but I suspect it has something to do with SE or my ISP and not my machine (routing issue or traffic shaping perhaps).

This should probably get looked at eventually, especially for those who has download caps as an 11GB download I imagine takes up a fair chunk of their monthly usage, fortunately I do not have these limitations but with the attempts made in the previous post plus a reinstall I must have downloaded a total of near 20GB.

Either way problem solved so lock/delete w/e it is you do.
