Just a warning to be wary of a player who's been recently joining FCs and stealing materials (~1300 Lightning Shards from mine). Be careful of him and any others associated with.

Before anyone calls me out for "not setting the FC ranks properly", we are a relatively new FC which split off from another one following disagreements, the entirety of our new FC is hard at work together getting us off the ground starting with nothing. It is entirely our fault that these were stolen I'll grant.
So at the very least, take is warning for others to avoid the same mistake.

I've actually read on here about people doing this kind of thing before.
Best thing you can do is report them to a GM and hope you get your stuff back. Sadly, we're not allowed to name and shame though :/

I've heard Square Enix GMs are little more than "ghosts" so I don't expect much >.>
I'm not really expecting/wanting our stuff back (because this is the internet so I can't do much about it) but its hard watching the efforts of my friends go to waste. :/ We've been through a rollercoster-ride of a time recently.

Your best bet is to make a chat macro that names and shames him for what he does and every now and again, post it in RevToll or a city.
Something like:
->XXXX_YYYY Is joining Free Companies, cleaning out whatever he can access in the Bank, then quitting. Be wary of him.

And then drop that in Shout/Say every now and again.

That's something you should be wary of doing, it immediately makes you look just as bad as the person stealing items.

As for the OP I would say you should learn from this and set a rank with a rank with deposit only privileges that all new members are given, then after a predetermined amount of time they get permission to withdraw. The problem is that there will be a lot of players that will do this, the best thing you can do is try to pursuade players to have this rank, as uncovering one person isn't even scratching the surface.

Take the high road. Learn your lesson and just move on. You are going down a No-Win path here. Be happy they only took a very small amount of shards... It could have been extremely bad and it wasn't. No matter how you justify your actions, players will/can look negatively towards you and your FC by calling him/her out. Tread with caution is all I'm saying.

(Too bad your not on Midgard, I'd drop you the shards as a "don't worry about it" gesture...) btw Boarskin maps are a great source for 220 shard drops. Turn this into a guild recovery event and group up, go run some maps and get back to having fun!
