    Glamour system

Yeah I know, vanity system is old news but as a returning player I only recently was able to try it out. I remember how the community was begging SE to implement a vanity system to the game. I was actually expecting some kind of vanity slots, simple and convenient. What did they give us?

We have to buy a prism for every single piece of equipment we want to change. On my server some prisms cost up to 6k. If you wish to change your whole set even once then you have to pay a lot of money.
Everytime you get an upgrade of your equip - you pay.
Everytime you want to change back to the original look of your set - you pay.
Everytime you get bored of the looks and want to change it to something different -you pay. Its even worse for people who play with different classes. They have so many different sets and get upgrades frequently - if they decided to use vanity on all their chars they would go bankrupt.

I tried the system out and played around with it for a bit. Then I just removed all prisms and decided not to use the system anymore - its pure BS. And most people I see don't use it either - the majority of players just run around in whatever original set they are using atm.
I have never seen such a bad vanity system in any MMO, and I played many of them. I didn't know you can screw up something as simple as vanity slots. Apparently, you can. Well done, SE, well done.

What are your thoughts on it? Are you using glamour? Are you happy with it? Don't care? Wan't any changes?

Personally I'm more of a fan of just making the general gear in the game cool looking and not bother with such a pointless concept as vanity slots in general. Wouldnt that be what gear changing macros are for? When you're just hanging out, where what you think it cool...Then when its time to get things done, swap out to your useful gear.

If you dont like the gear you're wearing but you have to wear it, well...welcome to life. Sometimes you have to do things because its required, not because you want to.

People complain about crafting being neglected blah blah. SE attempts to do something by linking vanity to crafters and let them have something to craft and sell. Now people complain they have to buy prisms to play with vanity....

I don't care that I have to buy prisms, but they could've just made like one glamour prism that works for all gear. Now I have to try and glamour something to see what grade/type I need for that particular item and then buy 5 of them because every crafter is a jerk who doesn't sell singles.

No you don't. The prism type you need is the same as the class that repairs the gear (which is stated in the gear's tooltip) and the grade is based on the item's ilvl.

Fine. I have to find the item in my inventory/armory chest and look at it to figure out what I need to buy. It's still worse than having one glamour prism for any gear.

I agree it's a completely gil hungry, over encumbered system when it could have been so simple. You're lucky that prisms on your server max out at $6,000. Try coming to Famfrit where they can be upwards of $20,000+ for one prism.

    6k isn't a lot of money.
You can make that just from running the Hard mode dungeon roulette once.

Sure, actual vanity slots would be easier. But it's just a minor inconvenience rather than a problem on it's own

I see people using glamour all the time. Usually for dresses, sailor outfits, or swimsuits.
Currently my only 50 that isn't using glamoured items is SMN because I like the look of the equipment. If I end up buying the soldiery top though, I'm immediately glamouring it. Everything on my bard is glamoured.
I make my own prisms and gather all the materials though, so all they cost me is some time, 200 gil for the blank prism, and any teleport fees.

Regarding the market prices, while the prisms are faceroll easy to make the main investment is actually the crystals (and getting the class up to 50). The weaver prisms take 10 shards and 2 crystals to make from base materials. That's about 1500 gil if you buy them from the market board on Malboro. And of course you can't buy those quantities either. Shards and crystals are only sold in stacks of hundreds or larger if you are unlucky. So a crafter relying on the market board for crystals might be making an initial investment of over 750,000 gil (assuming stacks of 500) just to get the materials. Then they make the prisms and wait for them to sell. Since they can't rely on their entire inventory selling quickly or at all and they want to make a profit, there will of course be markup. I'm not surprised at 6k for the high end.

The problem with that is that people don't all agree on what's cool looking. The whole point of a vanity slot system is that you can wear what YOU want because YOU like how it looks. And just because you don't see the value in the concept doesn't mean it's pointless.

When you're just hanging out, where what you think it cool...Then when its time to get things done, swap out to your useful gear.

I dunno about you, but I play games to have fun, not to emulate the unpleasant realities of real life. I'm not a fan of the idea that if I'm just "hanging out", I get to have fun and wear what I think looks good, but when I go to actually play the game, I have to wear stuff I don't like? Perhaps wearing the gear that you think actually makes your character look their best/most interesting/coolest/whatever while actually playing (i.e. while in a dungeon or doing quests or what have you), and not JUST while standing around in town chatting with people, isn't that important to you. It sure is important to me, and judging by what I've read, to quite a few other people as well.

I'm basically with the OP. I'm glad there is a vanity system at all, but it's way more convoluted and expensive than it needs to be.
