I just went from (86 or 87 cannot remember)-180 with culinarian in about an hour. I used HQ tinker+bacon and had 7.5% on icepicks/ice fairies I used 2 tinkers and 2.5 stacks of those combined took me to 104~ at which point I started using my stack of lobsters/coerthan crabs and so on. when I got to 160 I used all my lvl 60 fish and bought half a stack of thunderbolt eels (nobody uses them so they are cheap). Those took me to 165 then I started using all my 60 1 star fish. I had a dozen or so euphoric purucira <sp?> as they were almost a 100% catch when I was at that fishing spot. Then I had 90 storm chasers (they bite with big fish tug within 2 seconds on giant crane fly blue scrips bait so you cast and then recast if you don't get a bite) Took me about 15 minutes to ctach them all. They also can give platinum coins. I was at 180 by the time I had 30 of those left.

    Yeah, so my own experience...

At roughly 90ish CUL desynth get some HQ tinker+bacon and desynth stacks of lvl 51 fish (rlvl 120) such as icepicks. If you're leveling fishing at the same time, icepicks and sorceror fish are both collectable turnins, so keep the collectables and desynth the others. Just keep desynthing as you work your way up the chain of HW fish. Get some blue scrips, buy brute leeches, and go and fish the Thaliak river for more Illuminati Perch - that gives you scrip turnins (and a lot of them, they're easy to catch once you have brute leech) and you'll also catch a bunch of Hinterlands Perch, which is a lvl 60 fish - you can use that to get you up to r165 or so. Take the ton of blue scrips you got to buy giant crane fly and head over to Tharl Oom Karsh in Churning Mists, and just start fishing over the edge. Any time, any weather. As Rath noted, storm chasers, a one star lvl 60 fish, are practically an instant catch - if you're going to get one, you'll know within 2 seconds.

If you don't get a big fish bite by then, reel it in so you don't waste the bait on a smaller fish and recast. Really, really fast fishing for those so long as you have the right bait.

They also have a small chance to desynth into allagan platinum pieces or Quicktongue (Spell Speed) Materia IV.

Also to note, the hinterlands perch mentioned above are listed as desynthing into seaborne aethersands as well as Quickarm IV. They and the illuminati perch are both all-day fishing as well and you will catch around 20 of each an hour without using cordials. Each perch is almost enough to buy 50 bait, so it is quite an easy task.

I love this guide! I was stuck on my CUL until I came across it. I found coeurlfish to be great as I was in the dreaded 70ish zone, but... mooching. I only noticed the "short" guides a few days ago, and much prefer the takitaro - as a straight catch, I saw much better progress.

The market board is a waste at this point - there's 0-2 of any green fish, and the costs are insane. But then I noticed 90+ Worm of Nym and Aetherlouses for sale for as low as 2k, and was reminded that I've earned a few from retainer ventures post-3.0. That explains the exploding commonness of them. I just bought a ton - Over the last two nights I easily shot from about 77 to 90.

I don't know what other servers' costs are, but I advise looking these two up for sure! If your fisher is geared (I'm 57 w/a mix of 2.x BiS & some new gear), the aetherlouse is an easy catch in Mor Dhona as well, but when they're 2-4k, it's totally worth buying them imo.

Hopefully this can help others who were in my situation!

Thanks for the info! I forgot about the new ventures because every time I've sent my retainer on them, she brings back HQ Silver Sovereigns. I mean, c'mon! I know you like your Forager Rod, dear, but you already have one! Watch, I give her my Lucis, and I bet she'll start fishing up HQ Gigant Clams.

You didn't notice the quick guides before because they weren't there before. i just started adding them, because I know how overly verbose I can get, and most people just want to quickly find what to desynth to level reasonably fast/cheaply. The details and options aren't helpful for everyone.

When I update the guide next, I'll throw in the stuff about the aetherlouses and worms of nym.

I can attest, retainers will bring back HQ gigant clams Q.Q; As an aside, I'm still getting skill ups on Hinterlands perch at level 170+ (small gains but I get a lot of these while fishing for blue scrip Illuminati Perch and they occasionally give gold pieces). I'll be trying the 1 star fish mentioned above to try to cap out.

As an aside, any advice quickly advancing leatherworking above 89 aside from myth gear? Bridesmaid sandals have really sort of slowed down.

Hmm, depends. How much are FC3s going for on your server? Sandals are 6k and have a 1/6 chance of yielding an FC3. The rest of the stuff they can drop is not worthless though, so average the other 5/6s to 2-3k (however much spruce/undyed wool is going for on your server). So, 6 desynths costs you 36k and nets you ~12k + 1x FC3. If FC3s are going for 30k or more on your server, I'd recommend sticking with the sandals. Math says you should still be coming out ahead, which means its still the cheapest. At least until 95, where stop gaining skill every time.

If you don't like desynthing a couple hundred times for a few skill ups, or the sandals/gaiters aren't profitable on your server, here are some suggestions that my spreadsheet spit out (note: gil values are based on the Faerie server's prices from a week and a half ago):

    No Tinker's Bacon:

    Best Man's Gaiters - 120k/level (expected return: ~150k in mats and FC3s)
Saurian Gloves of Casting with 4 melds - 81k/level (expected return: ~50k in mats and BC3s)
Archaeoskin Belt of Striking with 0 melds - 165k/level (expected return: ~8k in mats) <-- don't do this
Archaeoskin Belt of Striking with 1 meld - 93k/level (expected return: ~8k in mats) <-- this is also meh
Archaeoskin Belt of Striking with 2 melds - 68k/level (expected return: ~8k in mats)
Archaeoskin Belt of Striking with 3 melds - 58k/level (expected return: ~8k in mats)
Archaeoskin Belt of Striking with 4 melds - 56k/level (expected return: ~8k in mats)

    Full Tinker's Bacon (+6):

    Best Man's Gaiters - 100k/level (expected return: ~150k in mats and FC3s)
Saurian Gloves of Casting with 3 melds - 67k/level (expected return: ~50k in mats and BC3s)
Archaeoskin Belt of Striking with 0 melds: 47k/level (expected return: ~8k in mats)
Archaeoskin Belt of Striking with 1 melds: 39k/level (expected return: ~8k in mats)
Archaeoskin Belt of Striking with 2 melds: 35k/level (expected return: ~8k in mats)
Archaeoskin Belt of Striking with 3 melds: 34k/level (expected return: ~8k in mats)

Those are the only good options I see that aren't dungeon drops. If you don't want to level slowly from the sandals, either try the belt with an extremely low chance, or the gloves with a higher cost, lower exp, and higher chance. The belt is 6% base at dSkill 89, but that goes up to 21% with Tinker's Bacon, and then up to 26%, 31%, or 36% with 1, 2, and 3 melds respectively. The belts really do seem like the quickest way - you don't turn a profit on them by any means, but you can spam them from 89 to ~120, reducing the number of melds as you go. I mean, you don't have to meld at all, but just one meld saves you a fair amount of money at the cost of having to stop and meld. If you're not using Tinker's Bacon though, you HAVE to meld. The price triples if you don't.

Just sent my fisher out on a level 55 venture on a whim. She came back with a Gesthal. I... really don't get how fisher retainers are the purveyors of cats and dogs, but hey, I'm not complaining!

Thanks for the advice! I did try the melded belts but wasn't happy with the results. I guess I'll stick to the ugly shoes for now unless I can convince people to spam T6-13

The fishing retainers seem like they have the most hit or miss fishing expeditions sometimes...Personally I think they're all a bunch of drunks and just pick something up on the way back from whatever alley they passed out in the night before.

Bridesmaid's Sandals are an excellent way to level LTW Desynh, especially if you have BSM Desynth leveled up too.

Use the Spruce to make the hand in for the Carpenter Artisan saw, and desynth that (BSM desynth) for MCD.

FC3 sales should cover the cost of everything, the MCD sales are effectively pure profit.
