You couldn't at first, highest was the i90 stuff. Never heard of that being changed.

Also found out imitation mistbeard masks convert to FCIII, wolfram squares, darksteel ingots, and darksteel nuggets. So they're no longer 8k on my server, sorry.

And to correct the note from OP:

Each point of Careful Desynthesis appears to be a flat bonus of +2.5% desynth success rate raise your effective skill level by 1, so +6 would be +15%. At 110 skill with Careful Desynthesis +6, you should have a 100% chance to desynth r90 items and an 85% chance to desynth r100 items.
This is from using food on things high enough where the difference in skill was higher than 2.5% per point and seeing it matched up.

Edit: Also, in an odd use of mechanics, that storyline fight where your buff duration gets multiplied by 10, has been confirmed to work on x-pots...maybe it'll work on tinker's calm too?

    Good to know, thanks!

EDIT: What's the rlvl on that? Or, to ask that another way, what was your %chance and dSkill for it? It sounds like r90 if it was giving wolfram...

This does not seem correct. When I have a 70% chance (skill 100, desynthing an i90 item), NQ Bacon Broth increases my chances to 72.5%. At 101 skill without Bacon Broth, my chances are 71.5%. All other reports have also indicated a flat 2.5% bonus per point of Careful Desynthesis. Can you provide specific values for which Careful Desynthesis was more or less than +2.5% per point?

    Which fight?

Chrysalis. But I'm told your buffs wear off after you exit the white world. I might try using one next time I'm in there just to see for sure though.

And about the skill level, nah I don't remember values, and if you're currently seeing otherwise I'll just retract that; I must be remembering it wrong.

r70 for the mistbeard mask and imperial shadow visor. I get 100% on imp visors on 100 gsm, and get 76% on both the mistbeard mask and artisan's frypan @ 84 armorer. I only did a few imperial visors, rose gold ingot and nugget, couldn't really imagine an equivalent to the wolfram square and they were more expensive.

Also got 3 terminus putty off a varlet's bracelet tonight (i100 dungeon drop).

Well, you can desynth in duties, so if it works, you could theoretically get a group of desynthers together in PF, go in, desynth for an hour, and then leave. Of course, you'd need inventory space for enough items that you couldn't desynth them all in 10 minutes normally, which is kinda impossible. Maybe with stacks and stacks of fish...

On my server, Rose Gold Ingots (r70 GSM material, requires 9x peacock ore and 2x rose gold nugget) have generally been much more expensive than Wolfram Squares (r90 ARM material, requires 1x Scheelite). Generally, Rose Gold Ingots are 75-100k, and Wolfram Squares are 20-30k (Scheelite was down to 5k last I checked, and Peacock Ore was 5k each). But, Darksteel Ingots (r70 ARM and BSM material, requires 9x coke and 2x darksteel nugget) are generally the same price as Rose Gold Nuggets.

The GSM equivalent of Wolfram Squares would be Gold Ingots (r90, require 1x raziqsand) or any of the highest level gems (Ruby, Topaz, Emerald, Iolite, Sapphire, Diamond - r90, require 1x emery).

I had some time to do some science tonight just before maintenance, and found out that you cannot desynth while under the effects of brainjack. Which is a shame.

That Chrysalis fight, if it's true that buffs wear exiting this one phase, it wouldn't be good for desynth. You fight in one arena, get sucked into another which extends your buffs, and you have a short time to fight one mob, or wipe, before you go back out. A tank could desynth while in there cause they stand under meteors but it's not the kind of length of time you could spend 10+ minutes in. If there's an exploit it would have to rely on the extended buff lasting after the fight.

As far as imperial shadow visors, it's certainly possible they'd drop gold ingots (last I checked were like 8k for nq on my server). NQ rose gold ingots are like 15k. The visors were going about 20k. Guess we just have a bigger GSM desynth bandwagon. If they drop 4 things like the mistbeard masks do, it's easy enough to average whether it's worth spamming a bit for science, but that wouldn't be where I am.

I <3 you. Thanks for science!

From what I can tell, to generalize, desynthing is an action, specifically, a non-skill "destructive" action (in the CompSci meaning of the term). If you can't perform other actions such as skills, you can't desynth. While Confused, Brainjacked, Fettered, Slept, Stunned, or Mounted, you cannot preform actions (including skills), so you cannot desynth. If you've readied up for a duty or you are crafting or you are in a shop window, you cannot perform unrelated "destructive" actions, so you cannot desynth. "Destructive" actions are things that permanently modify the game state such that they interfere with the action you are currently preforming. You can't switch classes while accessing a retainer's inventory as that changes your gamestate in ways that have nothing to do with accessing your retainer's inventory, but you can sort items, discard them, and move them around. You cannot move items around or discard them while crafting, because that affects your gamestate in a way that directly impacts the craft - what if you discard an item that you're currently using in a synth? You can't shop or access your retainers while crafting for the same reason.

The big difference between crafting/gathering/shopping/retainering and desynthing is that desynthing does not require you to stand still, nor be in a specific place, nor interact with a specific non-inventory object. So, you can do it on the go, where you can't do the others on the go. There is also no class requirement for desynthing, so you can do it in duties. You can't craft in duties, not because it's disabled during duties, but because you cannot be a DoH class in a duty.

.... and now I'm wondering about crafting during Frontlines... I never checked if the DoH classes were available or not (my guess is that they aren't, or else I'd have seen trolls running out brandishing their sewing needles already).

They are 2 star, so they should desynth into fieldcraft 3's or their mats: clear glass lens or darksteel ingot. That ingot kind of prohibits it being worth spamming; I can't imagine a server having those as a lesser cost than garlean joints.

Also, Nyalia, in your OP the sources for BC 2's is a bit outdated/incomplete/whatever...from what I could figure this should be the list:

    CRP: wolf guisarme (pvp)
BSM: wolf winglet or pugiones (pvp) (you had pld weapon only there, the newer ninja one is only 2 mats vs 5 but it is 2 ds nuggets so maybe that's a tossup)
    ARM: cobalt chain coif
GSM: lvl 50 earrings (rubelllite, zircon, etc) (you had some i55 there)
LTW: 1-star militia choker or wolf duckbills
    WVR: wolf tights
ALC: tane mahuta (you had the madman's whispering rod
    CUL: (incapable)

Yeah, that list hasn't really been updated since the patch that introduced desynth. Madman's were such great sources for BC2s for so long, cheaper than Tanes with better yields, but now they're super expensive since GC Seals became required in large quantities out of the blue. All the i55 stuff is now turn-inable for GC seals, and is no longer cheap to make, nor anything that uses the same materials.

I really need to rework the guide from scratch with the new material costs, but that's a lot of work so I don't know when I'll be able to get to it. Stuff like Twinthread and Hippogryph Leather going from 1k to 4k totally changes everything, especially along with all the smaller changes (filtered water going from 1 gil to 1k gil, rose gold and darksteel nuggets going from 4k to 5-6k, etc).

And, I have no idea if prices will re-stabilize back down to the old levels once the zodiac/lucis-rush dies down... And, I have no idea if the economies of other servers are mirroring ours or not.
