    Well, for the Aged Pestle, at 75 skill, it'll be ~0.04. At 76, it'll be ~0.03. At 77, ~0.03. At 78, ~0.02. At 79, ~0.015. At 80, ~0.01. At 81, ~0.0075. And so on, down to ~0.001 at 84. At 85, you should not get experience anymore. So, 25 + 33 + 33 + 50 + 67 = ~208 to get you to 80.

Of course, these are just guesses and extrapolation from known data, so please, please let me know if the numbers are off so I can update my chart.

And you're welcome - I'm a math geek who rarely gets to usefully geek out about pedantic mathy stuff :P

If you're not doing endgame crafting, then sure, but the tradeoff is very minimal. So, only to people who have literally zero interest in ever crafting should do this. But, if you're not interested in ever crafting, why are you interested in desynth? I guess to make money, but you'd make so much more with a combination of crafting and desynth...
    thank you very much.

When desynth was released and the max of 300.00 came out, a lot of people complained that it should have been at least 305 because with 300, you can only max two classes. At the time, I thought all the complaining was really silly since you could still have two classes at 100 and one at 95, so what's the big deal? 95 isn't that much different from 100, right?

I've since changed my opinion. 95 is VERY different from 100. It's a difference of 10% or 7.5% desynth chance, which is very meaningful for endgame desynth. Not to mention, you can't keep two classes at 100 easily if you are using three desynth classes and are maxed. The system becomes a huge mess if you're trying to not lose either 100 while still using your class that's at 95. If you succeed in a high level desynth at 95, you will gain exp. If your other two classes are not locked, they will lose that much exp, and now you'll be at 100/99/95. The next desynth you do at 99 or 95 has a good chance of hitting your remaining 100, leaving you at 99/99/95, and so on. It's very annoying.

You can get around it somewhat by using a desynth rotation to "lock" the two 100 classes in place. The problem is that you will still gain experience with the third class, putting it above 95 and your total above 300.00. So, the next time you desynth anything at all out of the rotation, you'll still lose the points in a random craft which could be one of the 100s and not the 95. Basically, this leads to you having to do awkward things to finagle your 100s to stay as 100s. It's annoying and totally unnecessary.

They can fix this in two ways - allow us to "lock" a desynth class so we cannot lose OR GAIN experience in that class, or just up the cap to 305. What's the big deal with 305 anyway? It makes everything so much cleaner.

hehe. while i am not even a crafting player, i thought it was dumb the way it was set up from the very start. just simply because you could not max out 3 proficiencies to 100, despite having 300 points to work with. and while i still think it is dumb. and think they should make it so you have to like unlock each proficiency. (your ideas are good too) a fail rate really is not so terrible. it makes certain things more challenging. and also makes certain items more valuable.

lol I've been saying that since it was first discovered that you can't (effectively) have 3 classes at 100. Hopefully they learn from their mistake in the next desynth update (2.5?) and either allow skill locking or update the new skill cap to 404 ((100 x 4) + (1 x 4)) instead of 400.

    Cross your fingers!

Sure, a fail rate is fine, but I'm not talking just about the i70 desynths (100% at 100, 92.5% at 95). It's also a huge deal with the i95 Allagan Weapon desynths (BSM is my low class right now, and at 95, the chance of desynthing an i95 item is 50%. Much worse than the 60% at 100). When we are allowed to desynth i100 items, it'll get even worse - 40% instead of 50%. And so on. 10% makes a huge difference at the extremes, not to mention that 92.5% fails quite often, irritatingly, when 100% never fails.

What I expect to happen is that they will eventually raise the cap to 400 (with 3.0), but when they do, they raise each individual skill's cap to 150. So, you can still only max two skills. I don't expect the raising of the cap to be helpful for people who want to have more than two classes at max. I'm also guessing this is why they don't really care about 300 being really awkward - it's just how things work out with the current values, but it'll be totally different when they raise the skill caps.

    Just for the info:

"dSkill 1-10: Weathered Shortsword (r1) [90% - 100%] (buy for 63 gil in Limsa Lominsa)"

You can buy it in Uldah, not Limsa.

Whoops! You're right, that was a typo. I somehow got GLA and MRD confused (you can only buy level 1 main hands in the city where the class's guild lives). Thanks!

EDIT: Actually, it turns out that the level 1 ROG weapon is also 63 gil (cheapest price of all the BSM desynthable level 1 weapons), and you can buy that one in Limsa. I put both in the guide. I also updated the BSM guide with a better option at rlvl 16 - Brass Knives.
