Why can't we desynth verity/lakshmi gear? Hope they will allow us to in 4.1

Babies are complicated. Toddlers, almost as much. I no longer have the free time I once did. I do plan to update the guide now that I'm playing FFXIV again (even if only at night), but it's far from a simple update, and I do not have a handle on the current economy. If you (or anyone else) are offering to help, that would be great. If not, it'll be updated slowly over time.Seeing that OP is still active, I'm wondering if this thread is ever going to be updated. I don't expect it to have SB stuff immediately, but the cap was raised well beyond what the guide covers even in HW and there's still really no guidance for those levels. In particular, now that the expansion is over, simply spamming the dungeons for gear is probably not a great option and I'd hope the guide would be point that out and offer alternatives, such as when and on what to use Centurio Seals and Tomestones of Poetics.
There is also not currently a strong reason to do desynths like there used to be in 2.x. You can break even on some items, but there are no longer any new desynth-only items, either glamour items like the old swimsuits and fish minion or crafting mats like the FC/BC/MC demis. Desynth has been seriously neglected even as they have made significant changes to ease leveling it. That makes it hard to be motivated to do a guide - I can, and will, do a leveling guide, but I don't currently have an answer to "why should I level desynth" beyond "because then you'll have higher level desynth."
I will be updating the LTW stuff first, from my own experiences. It's the only desynth I'm currently working on, personally. I don't know if I'll update the 1-100 leveling guides - things have changed, but I don't think enough to warrant a change to those. If someone wants to help with the leveling guides for other classes, please let me know.
You can never desynth the latest equipment. Verity items will be desynthable when the next set of tomestones comes out (and primals when the next set of primals comes out as Nixxe said).
EDIT: According to the 4.0 patch notes, desynth success rates have changed again. If anyone can give me a few datapoints to add to my own, it would be immensely helpful! Please give the name of the item desynthed, your chance to desynth it, your dSkill before desynthing it, and your dSkill gained from the desynth (if successful). I don't need many datapoints, just a few scattered ones, especially at the earlier levels. I mainly need to use them to confirm my equations.

That's fine. I think the 1-100 stuff is probably fine. Probably the only thing worth adding is that you can use Allied Seals to buy the old ilvl 100 stuff for very little, which makes it very good for leveling desynth, even relatively early. I think I started around 80. The accessories are like 25 seals and come in at least GSM, WVR, and LTW flavors, so even if you fail a bunch, it hardly matters. Poetics and Centurio Seals are also generally helpful from like 160-260. It's not going to be as fast as some people probably want, but I think it's the most frugal way, while also still being effective.
We'll see what they do with desynth, but at the moment I think the best reason to level desynth is in anticipation of future additions. After all, weren't FC/MC IIIs added in HW? We may see another addition in SB, even if desynth overall plays a smaller role than it used to. I know CUL can desynth some fish for combat VIs, which I guess is probably worth it to some people, though I haven't seen anything exciting in the few pieces of 300 gear I've desynthed with GSM.

Thank you! That sounds like sound advice, and I'll include it in the RR->HW gap advice. The HW->SB gap is so easily passed with Wolf Marks though. Getting 1.00 points from a 100% chance desynth is really, really nice, especially if you're running Frontlines Roulette every day for those 40 Creation tomes. Takes patience, but it's working great for me and I'm on my second class doing it (GSM). Of course, it's better for some classes than others (LTW/GSM being the best, ARM being next best because shields, then WVR/BSM, then ALC/CRP who always suffer). That's fine. The 1-100 stuff should at least be edited for the new exp and success formulas. The new success formula is so generous! It's a 60% bonus from at least ~160 to ~245, and still a 50% bonus at 260. The bonus means that at dSkill = rlvl, you have an 80% chance at r160-r245 where before it was a 50% chance. Throw in Tinker's Bacon, and you have a 95% chance. Also, you gain about ~0.9 from the desynths at dSkill = rlvl, so that's nice too. I still don't have the new success rate and exp formulas completely nailed down, but this implies that the bonus will extend through the endgame this time.
Again, I could really use a few datapoints if anyone's willing to help out, especially in the 1-150 range! My classes are all too close together to get a good read on the overall formula.
