What method should I use??
i205 PvP gear works, but is slow for BSM since the items have higher costs than, say, belts for LTW. Be sure to meld them (the guaranteed slots at least) with crap materia.

After a few levels, you can do the extremely painful thing and use pentamelded r255 weapons while under the effects of HQ Tinker's Bacon. I don't know the math anymore since they changed things a lot, but pentamelding used to give you +25% and HQ Tinker's Bacon used to give you +15% for a total of +40%. That can bring something that's below 0% to like, 25%. I wish I had the new formulas so I could math out at what point that becomes the best way to level... I think at dSkill 205, your chance without buffs is exactly 0%, so with the above bonuses, you would have a 40% chance to desynth the r255 stuff, which isn't bad. At dSkill 200, your chances should be 27.5%, which is doable, but a little painful since pentamelding can take forever and you still have a good chance of getting nothing. At dSkill 215, that becomes a 50% chance, and from there, it only gets easier. I'd still pentameld up until your chances without pentamelding are at least 50%, but I have not done the math and don't know at what point pentamelding doesn't increase your chances enough for the cost.

If you use the above method, remember that ilvl is not the same as "rlvl" (the level of the recipe). Some i255 items are d255, but some are t258 (or whatever, I haven't done the math out). You can check by looking at the BSM crafting log - 4.0 items that are labeled as level 60 crafts are r255, and ones that are listed as level 61 crafts are r258. I think. I'm not in game right now to check.

Generally though, keep in mind how useful melding can be. A 5% increase per materia is still nice.

I need to do out the maths at some point and see if they changed the formula for 4.0 like they did when 3.0 came out. The above calculations are using the 3.0 formula.
