Yeah, you only lose points if you succeed in another craft, and there are ways to protect against it. I linked a post at the top of the OP that explains how, but basically, if you've done a successful synth in a craft, you are immune to losing points in it for three more desynths. So, if you have GSM at 100 and want to level BSM, grab a bunch of junk GSM items (like Rusty Needles). Desynth one Rusty Needle, then do your BSM desynths. When you succeed three times at BSM, desynth another Rusty Needle. Repeat for victory.

You're welcome, but I feel a bit bad now that I haven't updated the guide in forever. Cushions are terrible now (the new glasses shot the FC2 prices up and waterfowl feathers are pretty pricey), but, like someone said above, Moogle Interior Walls are now really good for bridging the gap between coronal hats and cashmere items. Whiskers are about 8k each on my server, and the felt can be crafted pretty cheaply if you use Ventures to get your own snurble tufts, and if you make your own mortar. Don't buy limestone if it's too expensive, you can farm it really easily. It only requires a level 16 miner and the nodes are just outside of Aleport.
