This burns through bait quickly, but if you're using lures, you only go through ~5 an hour or so. This trick more than doubled my Silver Sovereign fishing rate.
Excuse the ignorance here but how is this so much faster? Letting the fish get away is that much of a speed boost from just reeling it in? Am I missing something?

Great guide, thanks for taking the time!

It generally takes around from 5-10 seconds to hook a fish, and another 8-12 seconds to reel it in. Legendaries have a unique sound/animation on the tug so once you can ID that, you can cut out the 8-12 seconds reeling time by simply cancelling, then immediately recasting. You tend to lose a good amount of lures doing this - I went through about 24 yumizuno over 5 hours fishing sovereigns cast-cancelling.

Especially not when the Supra rod only takes one. Also, Artisan's Spectacles and Forager's Hats can only desynth to a single Mastercraft at a time. Only the Artisan's tools and Forager's tools can give multiple thus far.

    Sorry, I don't buy it.

EDIT: I mean, I could buy some endgame fish (one of the 348 Gathering requiring ones) desynthing into a Mastercraft. That's totally plausible, and there are plenty we don't have data on yet. But not this fish, and not two at once.

I have my doubts too (the picture was posted unsourced on the BG forums), but considering it's as hard as some 2.3 fish to obtain just on the RNG, I could see it being a thing.

I'd like to see some confirmation too, it was posted on 2ch sometime last week. Sentiments are basically split in two. One camp thinks it's fake, another camp thinks that since it's so damned rare and hard to catch because of the weather and time requirements that it could possibly be true.

low requirements to catch? i think its one of the hardest fish ingame just because of the huge amount of rng and luck involved to catch it, lol

Regardless of how hard it is to catch, it has very low requirements for a two star i70 fish: less than 247 Gathering, 197 Perception. It is a double mooch, but there are triple mooches in the new content. Also, the first fish for the mooch is a 100% catch rate. If you succeed in getting that fish HQ (25% chance), your chance to catch the second moocher fish is 62.5%, and your chance that he's HQ is 25%. Because he can only be caught from 9am-3pm and only on Clear/Fair weather (fairly big window with common weather), the data I have is inaccurate for his actual catch rate with the double mooched fish. However, it seems fairly high. The people who have had trouble catching him were likely fishing during the wrong time of day or the wrong weather. So, assuming a catch rate of 50% on the final fish, that's a 2% chance to catch the fish every time you cast.

For reference, Twitchbeard is one of the new fish that desynths into swimsuits. He's only a single mooch, but he can only be caught from 4am-6am during clear/fair weather, your chance to catch the base fish is about 40%, and there are two other fish it can mooch into. He also requires 348 Gathering, 100 more than the Titanic Sawfish.

Also for reference, the chance to catch a HQ Silver Sovereign is about 1.5% per cast, and you need 20 of them for your Forager's Rod.

So, yeah, very low requirements to catch, and not a bad catch rate for an i70 fish.
