    FFXIV and Camping

I want to know why hardcore camping was suddenly introduced to the game.

One of the main draws of the game, from my point of view, is that everything was instanced. Sure, I might have to wait for queue, or wait for a mob to repop, but that was no big deal.

Then came the Zodiak books, which introduced FATE camping. 4+ hours I waited for the Taken fate. Then came monster hunts, which... I don't think I need to explain.

I have spent literal weeks of my life camping monster spawns and items in other games. I refuse to do hunts, period. I will not spend a single minute of my life longer on a hardcore camp if I can help it.

All that said, I want to know why the development/design team decided that it was a good idea to implement hardcore camping, and why they chose not to instance monster hunts so that everyone could enjoy them equally.

Because people everywhere were screaming for more open world content, and rightly so.

Open world content doesn't necessarily need to come in the form of the oldest (and at this point in the world of quest scripting, I'd like to add also the laziest) MMO trick in the book: The rare monster spawn. It does nothing but encourage camping behavior, which didn't really exist in the game up until this point. People have been complaining about camping since UO, and rightly so.

There should be content that not everyone can obtain. Why should we live in a fairy tale world where everything is free and easy? FFXIV is literally so easy its almost shameful.

If you dont have the time, or patience, or desire to camp things than you really dont want the gear and just go do something else. so much of this game is solo-able or just insanely easy so it's not like having that tiny extra boost in stats is going to make all that much difference. Its all for vanity anyway.

Loot at Atma. It's literally the most boring thing in the game I have tried. The weapon isnt even worth it. I'm required to spend countless hours spamming the easiest and most boring thing to do in the entire game so I can have a better weapon for dungeons which up to this point (I havent tried Coil 2 yet) have been cake walks most of the time.

The real shame is its SE being lazy. Instead of adding meaningful content, they can just use the same regurgitated garbage and just add rewards to it so it shuts people up for another month.

Man, if they are so hell bent on doing open world content then SE has to do it right. Look at Guild Wars 2. It introduced the open world event idea. It also introduced legitimate open world content bosses. Guess what? Those bosses literally took an entire server to beat them, and it doesn't take 5 seconds. It took a good half hour. Hell, they were set on timers too. But despite that the content was still amazing.

First about fate camping - it all comes out of if you just stand still in fate area until someone else spawn fate for you or you find out ways how to force that fate you need to spawn.
Second - there is no such game that everyone likes 100%. There is certain type of people that will whine just because they can't live without it. If there is no real reason to whine then they will just make one out of nowhere.

I'm not familiar with the problem that is debated here but I can't help but feel that a better question would be Why shouldn't we live in a fairy tale world where everything is free and easy?

... actually that sounds really great, stuff RL, lets go live in a fairy tail!

It's not "hardcore camping" if 1-200 people are hitting on the same mob. All the mobs respawn in 30-mins-3 hrs for A/B. ANS 2-3 days for S. It's very predictable. You make it seem like it's the same as ffxi where 10 people fight for the same mob and only one can claim. Besides this game needed open world content. Vast areas of the game were just "pass through places" until hunts were added.

Not a fan of hunts here.

They put some of the best rewards on what once everybody jumped on it became very easy content.

And a lot of people find it annoying content. It's not based on play skill. Or standard dungeon-style play at all. Instead it rewards those who find the spawn patterns (best case), cheat with a 3rd party app (worst case), or who leech from other people's info (common case).

I think this was touched on briefly in the most recent dev Q&A thing. They were looking into changing something, beyond the HP increase.

    P.S. LOL at this quote:
FFXIV is literally so easy its almost shameful....(I havent tried Coil 2 yet)
Coil2 is essentially the only content I care about right now. So you're right about the easy part, and shame you've chosen not to join the challenging part yet. There's Savage mode too for later on.
