    Anyone Else Like This?

I've found that with MMORPGs, I will always stay very active through the first major patch, but then by the second patch, I'm usually drifting away from the game and not doing a whole lot of end game. Then comes the first expansion and I'm back into it again. Perhaps I just get tired of the formula and need time away from the game, but does anyone else experience the same thing?

well, atleast you're doing End game. I wish I could, but thanks to my ridiculous cynicism towards our community that sometimes turns into down right anger and hatred for absolutely no reason whenver I see another underlined E in the party group has kept me tethered to a server that speaks a language I don't neither speak nor understand. . . .

    I think I need help lol. . .

Its seems like MMO's in general just arnt for you.

From what you have said, you enjoy a Game when its New, and dont really care much for DLC, if you will.

Did you start as a single player only type of Gamer? or has Heavy Multi-player always been your thing?

You just aren't really one of the genre maybe. You're always welcome to play it, and you'll likely have fun for a short while, but it's not something your mind will let you freely enjoy throughout. The MMORPG experience has a lot to do with wanting to do things with others and establishing that relationship you have with any friends you make. Does the idea of housing interest you? Does the idea of organizing small get-togethers that don't involve raiding endgame content sound fun? If not, the genre just isn't for you in the long term. It's not a bad thing mind you, it's just how it is. I get that way with other MMORPG titles that I don't play with friends. I'll be on it for a few months and... that's it. No interest anymore.

It doesn't seem so cut and dry an issue for me though. I actually do enjoy the group content as well as the community in general. I used to play MMO's all the time (played FFXI and then spent years in WoW). It wasn't until late into the Wrath of the Lich King expansion that I started to go in and out. Its not so much the content, but how the community approaches the content. For all the years I've spent in MMOs, raiders tend to be very inefficient in terms of scheduling for and analyzing end game encounters. An experienced, sober team should be able to master a fight within an hour (most encounters, anyway). Everytime I see a raid leader recruiting, they want people to sit down and raid consistently for 4-6 hours at a time. I used to tolerate that, because it was often the only way to get into raiding, but they were usually pretty awful if they needed that much time in a single sitting to make progress.

It might be I'm just reasonably doubtful of the end game community at the moment because of my years of experience. I probably don't want to get sucked into something I can't reasonably commit to.

You might have just hit the same point I did then a while back (and still kinda am in). As you pointed out, you just don't have the patience for things you once did. This seems to imply you've essentially become the original idea of a "casual" gamer. Again, absolutely nothing wrong with that. We got stuff we want to do, both in and out of the game lol. I don't have the patience to grind the hell out of something for 20hrs straight for a week anymore. I do not mind those things, however, as long as I can do them at my own pace (I just won't get it done as quickly as someone who does do it for a straight 20hrs+).

I put it in greater detail in this thread, but generally speaking, it's come to a point for you to think about what it is you want out of the game and how you might attain that. If it seems too unreasonable at this time, or just outright impossible, then thems the breaks. Play for the reasons you want to, even if it's just for a very short time. There's nothing wrong with liking MMORPGs and not sticking around with them (just realize you won't be able to do certain things if you have some limitation that interferes with it).
