Help understanding 1.0 to arr lore

Hey everyone,

I played in 1.0 and complete most of my main quests. I'm sort of confused about ARR atm, I know the calamity happened and in 1.0 my character was there as the moon was coming closer and closer to Eroeza. But in ARR so far its like my character was never there.

This is where I get confused, I remember joining the seventh dawn on my character. Yet I'm joining it again...so its like it never happened in the first place. My question is the arr character story a continuation of 1.0 or is it a fresh start?

That right there is probably the main issue. "Most of."

To start with, Version 1.0's Main Scenario didn't count for much. You arrived in town and got acquainted with the scenery while having a bunch of flashbacks you didn't realize you were having, and then, eventually, someone from Minfilia's organization saw you talking about the past and passing out all over the place and put two and two together that you had the Echo. They brought you to Minfilia, whose organization gathered and protected those with the Echo while trying to figure out exactly what it was. You ran a few errands for her, but it all fell apart when the crystal trade collapsed as Beast Tribes summoned their primals again and Gaius crushed the current Ala Mhigan resistance. You helped out a bit, but didn't garner too much notoriety.

When Yoshida-san took over, that story was stripped for parts and built into ARR's Main Scenario. It's still canon, but, again, didn't matter much. Then, they added the Seventh Umbral Era scenario via the Grand Companies, which became the "true" main scenario of Version 1.0 as the old one was pushed aside. This one dealt with the invasion of the Empire under Nael van Darnus and his ploy to drop Dalamud onto Eorzea. Here's a summary of all that, though you might want to wait to read it until you have some time to kill.

Now, here's the thing, even there you didn't garner much notoriety unless you got far enough into that storyline for Louisoix to realize you were the Champion of Eorzea and pit you against van Darnus so you could destroy the Lunar Transmitter and kill him, events that led up to the Battle of Cartenau. If you got that far, you were by Louisoix's side at the end and were teleported away - you get teleported back in at the start of ARR with a different introduction than people who are starting fresh or weren't very noteworthy.

Now, regardless of that history, every player has to work their way up from scratch since, for some reason, something about the moment we were teleported away by Louisoix erased us from most everyone's memory. Cid and Minfilia remember you if you were noteworthy enough, but otherwise bupkis. This is SE's way of equalizing the playing field, which I'll explain further on the way through the next part you're confused about.

The organization you joined before was called The Path of the Twelve. It was dedicated to gathering as many Echo users as possible and organizing them towards the goal of finding out exactly what the Echo is. If you saw the Grand Comapny story through, you joined Louisoix's Circle of Knowing, made up of himself, Thancred, Yda, Papalimo, Y'shtola, et al. In ARR, Hydaelyn comes right at you in the opening - so either you're a fresh adventurer just awakening to the Echo, have had it for a while but were skipped five years into the future by Louisoix and this is where Hydaelyn outs herself as the source, or you are an adventurer that got caught up in the events 5 years ago but didn't see it through and things have been kind of quiet between then and now, where Hydaelyn is popping back in to say, "Oh, hey, so remember that Echo thing? That was me. Time to get back to business!" Either way, you go on to join the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, which was created by merging the survivors from the two aforementioned organizations. You can read more about where you fall as an old player in the thread Explaining the Term "Warriors of Light," which came about from people mistakenly assuming that only those who were with Louisoix are Warriors of Light, as opposed to them just being the only ones who accomplished so much that they're remembered by some.

Both, depending on how you look at it. It all happened, but whether or not you were a part of it, or remembered if you were, is variable.

The TL;DR version is that Louisoix sent you into the future and the NPC's that survived forgot who you were.

Someone else can explain it more in depth, I'm sure. :3
