Oh I remember the gear in Aion. The pictures looked really awesome but when you got the piece of gear and wore it; it made you go "what the heck is this noise. . ." cause it looked stupid on guy characters and always looked amazing like in the pictures for female counterparts. Same can be said about TERA too.
I like the way it is now, cause if a see a female character wearing a piece of armor that I think looks awesome, I know it can look just as awesome on a guy character.
I love how XIV and XI before it does it currently. its equality. i'd be fine with a few of the armors being different. but the CT2 armor is cosplay armor. it wouldent make since if you *didint* wear Scylla's clothing...when wearing scyllas clothing ;p..
but for things like BRD,MNK,ect. ..its a uniform. all monks wear said uniform and all brds do. with the exception of small changes (which seem to mainly be undershirts/underarmor/shirts/skirts) they are the same.
One thing i reeeally hated about Aion was how every single female outfit absolutely needed high heels, it annoyed the crap out of me.

Yup, I was just saying the other day most other MMO games end game armors are vastly superior to this one. Anyway, totally agree.
Lol
omg Scylla's robe on males totally makes them look like a turd
What is up with the bird beak looking thing in the middle?
Lol, someone in our FC said it looks like the males have one boob in the middle.....
Rotflmao

I'd strangle a dolphin to get my WAR/DRG into some of that plate style!!!

I like how it is now. If you want to dress sexy, you can with both genders. I don't want to be locked to just dressing sexy or having very limited options if I don't want to. This doesn't just affect female characters though, it would affect male characters as well as they would only have fully clothed variants of gear and nothing sexy. I disapprove of both.

Honestly, I like the way the armor is in the game currently. It's very equal in terms of armor design.
I really like the fact that SE didn't decide to go the Chain Mail Bikini route for female armor. It's a refreshing change. HarukoDK put it very well in his posts. ^^
However, if they want to add different glamour options then I will not be against it. More options are, after all, a good thing. I just don't want the 'Chain Mail Bikini' type armor to be the norm.

There are a few possible reasons for a smaller gear design pool than other mmorpgs:
1. More designs need more people working on them rather than an instance or anything that needs to be textured. 5 races 2 genders is 10 designs for every piece of shared gear.
2. If you have 1 design for both genders its easier to figure out what gear they're wearing and around what level they are without having to examine them. Useful in certain situations, but this idea is also more geared towards pvp based mmo games.
3. They may be trying to limit the amount of fan service available. While there are a number of revealing outfits for females and males alike it's a smaller number than most mmorpgs. Revealing gear tends to be a way to draw a larger, and usually more often male, user base, which is why a lot of F2P tend to have revealing outfits. It doesn't always hold true to that though, I mean TERA started out that way. Hard to say how much of a factor this is at the moment.
Who knows though?

For ST in particular I don't think they based it on what roles the classes should get male/female gear. All the sets are boss themed and as such make more sense to allocate the bosses theme to the a specified role.
I agree the caster stuff looks kinda goofy on a male, especially a Roe, but the idea is to dress up like the boss, and that (or Amon I suppose) was the best choice for casters.
