I'd like to see a title achievement, awarded by the client upon being read by a third party app, to see how many people are dumb enough to leave it up. Assuming such a thing is possible and would not violate privacy rights or something on SE's end. ^^
Yes, but Blizzard also offers a development toolkit and a monitored channel for add-ons that the playerbase has embraced. SE needs to do the same thing if they really are serious about this game on the PC platform. I'm not saying that it would stop all cheating, but a lot of the functionality that folks like me are looking for can be easily provided by an add on and then it would no longer truly be "third party tools" it would be add ons in the game that SE can break if they don't like what it does.
SE wants to bang their heads against the wall and fight modern mainstream mmo standards though. So people will continue to make things like Windower, Apradar, FFXIVapp and others and completely bypass any checks and balances, period and all some of us want is a basic freaking dps counter.
The bigger issue is why these things are needed\wanted at all. Broken systems are targets for exploitation.

I remember when LotRO introduced LUA scripting to the game, you got a ton of helpful informatics tools like damage parsing and Raid trackers as well as HP reticules and the like. Never saw anything that was a specific exploit and it all integrated seamlessly into the game client without any extra external programs and being integrated they were easy to set up and use. If a plugin caused an issue, because it's part of their client now they can change the LUA script base to fix it and break that functionality. Rather than resisting player tweaks, if you embrace them and make them part of your plan as opposed to fighting against them, you end up with a lot less abuse and a lot more control.

Se doesn't want to because of cross-platform, but isn't letting PC players just flat out cheat even worse than a PC player being able to customize their interface a little more? Se needs to think long and hard about this position of "Playstation is more important so we will not have add ons for PC" because all it's done is make things even worse for console players and PC players that don't cheat alike.
Don't get me wrong - I'm glad that playstation is an option. I often played XI on my xbox because it's relaxing to not sit at the keyboard sometimes - but I'm getting a little tired of hearing the playstation as every excuse why we can't have something that is useful and would work nicely.

Agreed. There are concessions you have to make as a console player, this has always been the case. But then console players have the benefit of the games being optimized for their platform making them run (theoretically) faster and smoother, a concession you have to make for the varied hardware you run into on PCs. The concept of "hold one back so we can be fair across the board" is both crippling and misconceived.

If that were the case, then why are PS3/4 players having just as bad problems In doing the hunts as PC players? That's not much of a tradeoff.Agreed. It is the case and always has been the case, when you talk about the game as a whole. If you just reference one item, especially in this case... Hunts boils down to sheer competition and the attitudes of the community. If, however, you're saying that it's caused by "those dirty, rotten PC cheaters"... Well, you're partially right, but the stance of 'plugins bad' simply because the PS users wouldn't have access is like saying PC users shouldn't be able to upgrade components because Mac user's can't. It's a trade-off and one that will most likely always exist.

It sounds pretty one sided for a tradeoff. Wouldn't it eventually cause people to shun players of other consoles if the development of PC only add one and plugins takes off?It is the case and always has been the case, when you talk about the game as a whole. Just as an FYI.
I've upgraded the processor, Ram, PSU, and GPU in my 2009 iMac. These dolt perceptions that you can't upgrade a Mac are false. Just because it's not lolplugnplay doesn't mean its impossible. Also, runs this game on Maximum at 65 fps, no issues at all.
