Hunts are a problem

I know that there are other threads out there discussing Hunts and normally I'm not one to jump in on these types of conversations, but I'm seriously worried and annoyed right now. Hunts are ruining this game and I realize this now after reading this reddit thread:

In particular, comments like this: "While i wish i could be clearing Ramuh and participating in Frontlines. The rewards coming out of Hunts are just too good to pass up."


I see it happening on my server. People are ignoring all other content, making it nearly impossible to get a group to do anything else, all because they're obsessed with The Hunt. That is bad enough, but the fact that everyone is doing The Hunt makes it impossible for casual players to actually get anywhere with it. That was the intent of The Hunt, right, to give casual players an alternate way to gear up? Well that's backfired because the hardcore players have created groups of hundreds that swarm any Mark the moment it's up and thus makes it impossible for casual players to actually get anything out of it. Even with the buff to their health, you're lucky if you get a hit or two in. That's not even mentioning how hostile people have gotten over them. I've seen more fights in the past two weeks than I have all year.


It's a problem and one that can be solved by either Square Enix or ourselves.

Square Enix: please please please nerf them. Either take the Oils and other high level things out of the rewards we can get or make it so Elite Marks spawn at a significantly decreased rate (like one every hour or two) or make it so you have a daily or weekly cap on the seals you can get. Something, anything. By creating such an easy alternative to everything else in the game, people are doing only this and ignoring everything else.

Community: Chill out. Try the other things in the game already. I was baffled on Patch Day when people weren't bothering to unlock Ramuh or the new dungeons because they were spending all day waiting for Hunts to pop. There's a lot of great and fun content in this game, ease up on the Hunts and enjoy some of it. Get some Leviathan EX farming parties going, do some new dungeon runs, try to clear Ramuh EX, make a new static for Coil 2, do SOMETHING. This game shouldn't be all about getting the most stats the fastest. Especially since at this point we all know everyone else is doing it, someone needs to back away for the sanity of all.

People are not going to back off the easiest way to get what they want. Seeing how bare bones the story based content in this game is, SE seems to favor those types of players. That's just the way its always going to be. People are always going to take the easy road.

Yes, and it's up to SE to stop them whether those people like it or not.

No its up to SE to provide us quality content and stop pandering to the lowest common denominator.

I too, who have complaints about the hunts, have not beaten T5 nor ever set foot in second coil. I thought this would be a normal, non-static crazed way to get a few upgrades to my soldiery gear.

So, far after a week of particpating in hunts, I'm sitting on 166 seals, while I see hardcore raiders zerging every hunt possible, and walking around in 4-6 pieces of upgraded gear and weapons.

While I hate the system there's literally 0 advantage being "hardcore raiders" in hunts. All you do is sit in a random zone "hunting" (While in actuality your working on your animus books ^_^) in a full hunt group. And when your LS or one of theirs does a <pos> you port wherever they say and follow the crowd. Soon as its pulled do things and huzzah.

Being a healer makes it easy mode btw. poke it once (aero is a good one for sch and whm since it has front loaded dmg so even if there is no room for the dot you will still hit it) then spam group heals until it's dead.

Yes, I'm actually a member of one fairly large one, and a member of a new, smaller hunt LS.

I'll give you an example. Last night, the locations were being called out about every 5-10 minutes. Every single time, I immediately ported to where the LS's called the monster out. Exactly twice, I was quickly able to join a group and get credit. Every other time, the moster was obliterated before I arrived at the scene.

I know that, which is why I'm hoping Square Enix does one of the three things I suggest to them or at least something else. Still, if they don't, then it's going to be up to the community to step away from Hunts a bit. Even if the majority won't do it, if at least a few people do and start getting the other content flowing maybe a few will splinter off and SOME life can be brought back to the rest of the game.

They underestimate the popularity of The Hunt. They think only a few will do it and will take a long time to get The Sand. It is there to fill in for Game Content before the next patch.

Boy are they wrong. Not only people are able to get it way too fast, but big LS and FC are trying to monopolize the area and only get it for themself. Literally everyone is out there to try and get Ally Seal because the Reward is way too high.

Literally right now, Party Finder is pretty much Empty. Before The Hunt, will you occasionally see Primal Party Finder, Fates Party, Dungeon Party, even ScoB Party. But right now, you only few a few, and most of them are The Hunt. I think the game just shot itself in the foot and here it went down hill.

This is brand new stuff. Of course everyone is gonna be doing it. I don't know about others, but I don't even want sands and oils unless I happen to get log drops. I'm buying the cool stuff like minions and armor because I can get oil and sands in ST and Coil, both which I still play along with my daily dungeons.
