Iirc, in 2.0 hunt nms can spawn in different locations across the map, and require actions to get it to spawn in the first place. Is this not correct? There was no difficulty to hunt NMs in Black Shroud.
Except the ones in west shroud which you only needed for the moogle king quest. Every other NMs in the Black Shroud were in save areas. And you know where they would be. And if they were dead, you just waited 10 minutes fo the respawn.
Combine the ideas. Why wouldn't something like that be perfect for a larger and less aetheryte filled map?

This is why I said Teleport should cost Anima again. And there were many NMs you could kill solo (lv30-35 NM with an Lv50 job)
Larger map? yes
Less Aetherytes? no
I wish zones that are large enough to bring back the Aetherial nodes ^^,
Example:
The Aetherial Node at Halitali

Incorrect. http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Notorious_Monster
But I think you're referring to the Hunt system & reward structure, & not Notorious Monsters in general...?
I stumbled up on two this morning whilst gathering for GC missions & solo'd them. Then saw an FC message that Naul was up & teleported to join. Great fun!
You could still acquire more anima through trade, but it would be funny if they randomly tripled the price of teleports for shits and giggles. I've been keeping away from NMs watching other people fight on my linkshells, making gil, and just doing standard SCoB. The more people that are out there wasting teleport $$$ and getting 0-3 seals per mark only helps me earn more gil on top of them without competition anyway.
Triple that teleport fee SE, come on.

the fact that hunts was compared to ffxi and ffxii NM system by the devs is rather insulting.
Yeah, going through 3 years of fighting over KB to get my PLD a ring was some ridiculous time I wish I didn't spend, but at least it kept me amused and out of trouble. They've changed this game and it's targeted base pretty drastically, though, and if they brought back the XI NM system in its entirety the current ones would twitter/forum nerd rage.
At least XI somehow managed to keep a lot of subscribers even though 99% of them didn't HNM by giving them a real sense of community events. This NM system was a pretty bad attempt and figuring out how to do that again.
There are still methods to pop NMs, apparently; I haven't tried to do it. Don't forget about the claim system, too. At least there isn't a group of gilsellers running around claiming your mobs until they figure out how to kill kings this time. The worst part of those camps was seeing a gilseller with abjurations on and knowing they'll be banned eventually.

Hunts have conflicting incentives. On the one hand you have mobs that require many people to defeat.
On the other, you have the intended reward determined by contribution, so all those people can potentially take away from your group's reward.
That and you can screw up the encounter much easier in xiv. Resetting the encounter would've gotten you so much worse in xi.
