It's not wrong, it's playing to the strengths and weaknesses of your party.

If the party is not geared and someone forces speed run that could equal: Deaths, arguments, people quitting, having to wait for reps or leaving nad have a 30 min timers on said person who leaves etc... in short, wasted time and a longer run.

Where if the person sees (or listens to the group who doesn't want to speed run it) that it's maybe not the best idea and went in smaller but steady pulls there wouldn't be an issue and would get the dungeon done faster than the above option.

I always ask as well when tanking if I'm with randoms (I generally avoid doing expert/HL without friends these days). It's great when people respond... but it's not always the case. I've had plenty of times where I'm just met with silence, so I just make my best judgement call based off what jobs we have and everyone's gear.

One time had the above scenario happen in Brayflox HM with the DPS being fairly undergeared DRG+SMN, so I did small pull at start. Immediately the healer finds his voice to criticize me for not pulling more. I just asked you not even 30 seconds ago...

I don't know, in a technical way it is wrong. But ya, the moment the group fails (for what ever reason), the tank (or who ever pulled additional groups) loses all rights to complain and is fully to blame for failing to safely manage mobs for the group. After all, it was their decision to grab more so they must live with the consequences.

An apology would usually be the correct response in those cases rather then the more common approach of the blame game...

    Always remember the Silver Rule:
"Treat others as they treat you!" ...or something like that.

Problem is, people don't speak up before hand. It's up to you to say something like, "is it cool to pull a group of mobs?" or "I want to do it normaly guys."

The DF usually puts me in Japanese groups, maybe because I'm on a Japanese server, but they always ask if its ok to pull multiple mobs before starting unless they look at the Party list and see my Client is set to E, in which case they just assume it's ok. That's the difference between our communities that we just never seem to overcome. Like saying something as simple as "B Ok" or whatever your alliance letter is in alliance chat instead of just sitting there. . .not saying a word and willing to just waste time doing nothing or waste more time putting up a ready check.

Honestly I see this pop up as a topic from time to time but on Couerl I've NEVER seen this happen in my roulettes. I always go in as scholar (sue me I'm lazy after the 1000th dungeon and for dungeons scholar is 2 buttons -_-)

I've never seen anyone complain about speed running if it happens. Only time I've seen it NOT happen is if either the tank is THAT badly geared (very rare) or one of the dps is a monk (even more rare.. People seem to have figured out that doing roulettes it's best to play bard or blm). And in both of those cases I've never seen anyone complain that we weren't training because of group makeup making it inefficient/impossible.

Destination will always be the same regardless. As I said before I don't mind a speed run but no matter how fast you do it a grind will still be a grind at the end of the day..

In my experience so far, every time I've landed in Brayflox HM in my roulette either I or someone else has asked if the rest of the group is okay with a speed run. I haven't seen anyone have a problem regardless of the answer.

I don't mind speed runs, it's just when, as people say, people force others to do it or complain to others about how they're doing it. As a healer I'm often shoved into speed runs without any sort of warning, the tank just runs off ahead and pulls a huge pack, which I don't mind, but I imagine it's daunting for new DPS who are like, 'What on earth is he doing?', then having the tank complain that the DPS can't get the huge pack down quick enough. Or rage quit. Or if it's a new tank in the group and the DPS or Healer wants the tank to speed run it when he's used to it and start trying to kick him for going too slow. That sucks as well.

If everyone is on the same page and wants to do the speed run, then that's fine, but if they're not, then it's not fine.

Generally, as a tank, I make a mid-size pull without even asking only AFTER I check the other party member's equips at the start area of the instance. If I see they're i100-i100+, I make that mid-size pull. Based on how well they handle that clues me in to what they can handle. After that, I just make large pulls and, if I'm Paladin - Flash > CoS > Flash > RoH combo > Shield Bash things that might need be. I generally never lose hate doing that. If I'm Warrior, Tomahawk > OP > Infruriate > Cyclone > BB combo > Cyclone. Same as Paladin, generally never lose hate. The only time I maybe ever lose hate is if there are two BLMs blasting off Flares back-to-back. But generally, keeping hate isn't too much of a problem.
