In general: It comes off like you just want to get it out of the way. Like you're not really enjoying the game itself as much as you want to just 'finish' it.

For speed running instances particularly, it's a matter of demanding others rush it with you.
Also, speed running when there's a member that's new to the instance is kind of a dick thing to do.

I really love to do big pulls as tank or healer (it's just fun for me, I don't care about speed) so it's not like I don't like doing it. But the people who force it on others are complete jerks about it. As healer I was vote kicked because our tank died while we had 2 DPS who were ill suited to even do a speed run (MNK + SMN under geared is not good times). He insulted me and was rude to me beforehand as well for trying to tell him not to speed run.

Leaves a bad taste in your mouth and I rarely even do expert roulette now because of people like that.

I've done speed runs, and I do take it slow. I usually base what I'll do based off whatever the tank wants. If I'm ever in a party with a baby tank a high lvl dungeon I've never felt disinclined to bark at them to pull more. Speed running can get out of hand though.. Specifically in regards to low lvl dungeons. Doing a sanic the hedgehog run in say totorak is just ridiculous to me. So in short it's not bad when done right, but a lot of people like to assume no one is new or not used to things being so fast paced these people are the ones who give speed running a name.

Now if we're talking about speed runs in everyday life including the bed room activities then...

Lyrinn and Codek put it very eloquently.

It's not that there is anything specifically wrong with speed runs themselves, it's the attitude that generally comes with the speed runs. Usually this means that the speed run is shoved down someones throat whether or not that person can handle the pace. It is because of that attitude that the stigma against them formed.

There is nothing wrong with doing things as fast as possible. The problem is people that want to do things faster than the party is capable to - often the very "I want to speedrun this" member is the least capable person in party to do a speedrun.

It takes just one member getting hate with an AoE attack and suddenly they're eating not one attack but ten attacks and there's nothing a healer can do about it anymore (but still get blamed ba-dum-tsh!).

Speedruns are scourge on this game, you're causing an incredible amount of stress on the tank to keep hate and the healer to keep people alive, and what does it realistically gain you? A few minutes saved running in exchange for a tank who is instantly done for the day because he cannot handle it anymore? Sounds great, doesnt it. Before you say otherwise, lets face it, most common speedrun groups are not going to shave off more than a few minutes.

Heck, Speedruns have caused me to stop playing on my Paladin and have made me do dungeons on a DPS class instead. And i'm surely not the only one. So here's one for you, want to solve the problem with there being so few tanks looking to do dungeons with you? Try being nice to them and stop forcing them to speedrun things.

As a tank, I solve this problem easily. At the beginning of a dungeon... I ask. Ambiguity cleared up, problem solved, no more hate.

That's great. Now get the other hundreds of speedrunners to do the same and this will no longer be an issue.

You're a good man, sir. (Or good woman, m'am; whichever you prefer)

You're also the exception, unfortunately. When I started healing level 50 content I was extremely uncomfortable with speedrunning and start panicking when a tank would proceed to pull everything with no announcement, especially when I knew straight up it was out of my capacity to heal them through. Hell, I've seen tanks straight up ignore it - I'd say "I can't heal enough to do full speedruns" and... they'd do it anyway, and then finally say something only when they inevitably died.

Speedrunning is something to be opted into, as it requires an extra level of comfort, knowledge, and execution from all involved. Treating it as a default state inevitably causes problems.

Sir would be the word, and I wish I could do that. I can only speak for what I do, I even offer full and partial pulls for Speed runs. Sadly common courtesy isn't very common. However, if no one was ever the exception then there's no chance of it becoming the norm.
