"Timed out while waiting for FFXIV to shut down."

I got this error, "Timed out while waiting for Final Fantasy XIV to shut down." after I downloaded the new patch. I never had this problem before.
I did recently reinstall windows due to hardware issues and I haven't played FFXIV since the reinstall.
I can get into the game but I have to restart my computer each time. If I try to boot it after I already have it gives me this error, then I restart my computer and it works.
I looked it up online but no one seems to know why it does this.
I haven't tried to reinstall it because I really don't want to try that yet, and it would take forever and a half. I will if I don't get any answers.

Maybe ffxiv.exe doesn't exit properly after you close it. Check if it's still in the background with the taskmanager before you start the game again.

It seems like it doesn't exit properly. Last time I exited the game it just stayed at a black screen and I was forced to restart my computer manually. And sometimes it lets me boot it up no problem and sometimes I get the error as before. I checked to see if it was still running in the background but it wasn't.

Hey there, unfortunately I don't have a cure for your problem but I'd like to reassure you that you're not alone, I have exactly the same issue with no clue as to how to fix it. I have tried disabling everything that is unnecessary that's running on my system but still the same error until the system is restarted.

Hmm. Interesting. I've had a similar problem once, with the patcher, but never had it since. Can both of you post your computer specs using the FF14 config program?

You have two services running that peak my curiosity, PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe. These are usually installed with other games (Battlefield comes to mind) and serve as anti-tampering measures. I don't -think- that they would be an issue, however with FF14's less than stellar coding, its a possibility. Try killing off those two services (don't uninstall them, just stop them - they should restart when you restart your computer) and see if you have any better luck.

RapportMgmtService.exe and RapportService.exe are like above; they shouldn't cause a problem but -could- potentially (though in this case, I'd go out on a limb and say probably not, but worth trying in the off chance); kill the service and try again to determine if its the issue. HOWEVER, these programs are usually used for things like online banking so make -sure- you reboot and that the service is running before you actually do any online banking, etc.

Other than that, all I see that looks suspicious is is the multitude of anti-virus type stuff. Did you post that list of services before or after you uninstalled your anti-virus? Try again after you ensure the following aren't running:

    C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG10\Identity Protection\Agent\Bin\AVGIDSAgent.exe 00000960
    C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG10\Identity Protection\agent\bin\avgidsmonitor.exe 00000E90
    C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG10\avgnsx.exe 00000EDC
    C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG10\avgtray.exe 00000704
    C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG10\avgwdsvc.exe 00000300
    \??\C:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG10\avgchsvx.exe 0000027C
    \??\C:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG10\avgrsx.exe 00000180
    \??\C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG10\avgcsrvx.exe 00000C0C

As far as hardware, I can't remember if I suggested it or not yet (I answer a lot of these thread >< ) double check you are using the newest nVidia drivers. There were new drivers released about three or four days ago.

Okay, well, at least we eliminated the easy stuff. I am curious, however, do the windows error logs report anything more than "unexpected shut down"? The Event Viewer (you can search for it from the start menu) might provide some information. I am curious though, it was previously suggested that after exiting the game you check your task manager to see if Final Fantasy is still running after you exit it. Make sure you look at the processes, not the "applications" tab. If it shows up, we've narrowed it down significantly.

If not... herm. I'll give it some more thought. Right now though, I'm learn towards a programming error that is preventing it from properly releasing the memory.

OK as it hasn't been posted yet, a detailed explanation of what happens

Double click the FFXIV launch icon, ffxivboot.exe starts up, The small black FFXIV box pops up to show it's loading for about 5 seconds, it then goes into blue and displays the boot version in top left and says "checking version...", this dialog lasts for about 8 seconds with the music playing as it should, then suddenly the music will stop for about 3 seconds the box returns to black then a new box pops up in front of it.

In the title bar of this box it says ffxivlogin

then underneath shows the text Timed out while waiting for FFXIV to shut down.

with only the windows "OK" button to click, when the button is clicked both the 2 boxes stay on screen and the processes (both ffxivlogin.exe and ffxivboot.exe) has to be ended by right clicking it on the windows task bar and clicking close or shutting it down through the task manager.

Unfortunately the event viewer isn't recording this as any kind of error. The ffxiv process is most definitely not running whilst trying this too.

Also the error occurs for example if i turn the system on leave it idle (not touching/loading anything) for say 30 minutes then return and try load FFXIV. Or in the case that i load a different say say WoW talk to friends for 5 minutes or so, close as normal then try load FFXIV.

I'm kinda thinking it's some sort of programing issue as others are having the same problem
Sorry for the wall of text lol, any more suggestions you may think of are more thank welcomed and thanks so much for your time and brain power so far

EDIT: If it helps at all logging off my windows user name then signing back in doesn't work, it has to be a full system restart. Also the boot details shows "Boot Version: 2010.09.18.0000" Maybe that's an issue? Or the same for everyone? again thanks x
