    Total noob help appreciated

So after hitting cap in Rift ive been having an itch to try out FFXIV again (I say again because my buddy gave me a buddy key and since its still free to play i can still play lol) Im trying to determine if i want to stick with this game as soon as the PS3 version launches. I played FFXI for about a year or so and its what got me into mmos but i was still very new and didnt understand a lot of stuff. With FFXI being my first mmo ive always had a soft spot for the online FF series and i would love to get into FFXIV but i need some help first....

    1. I was fighting some mobs and i apparently didnt realize this particular mob could wreck me and i went running in only to fail miserably. I distinctly remember having to inspect or check a mob everytime id fight it to see how tough and stuff it was. My question is there a way to tell that exact thing in this game as well or no?

    2. Ive been following the developer letters and everything even though i dont play and noticed they are adding a lot of stuff that has my interest but i still dont understand some things. Are there quest quests or is it just do leves then party with random people and just grind? I know there are some story quests and ive accomplished enough to be able to figure out how to track quests and such but ive started over a bout a million times since i wasnt sure what i should be doing. So, what should i be doing? lol

    3. I just realized i had another question when i popped back in game... is there a way to heal after a battle like rest or anything?

Thats all i really had once i figure out what im supposed to be doing i dont mind trying to learn on my own. I fell in love with the community in FFXI (ive lost all respect for most mmo communities since they just seem to be elitist jerks in the end) so i would love to be able to get used to this game and hopefully be ready for whenever they decide to release a PS3 version since my comp isnt the greatest although it can run this game enough to be able to play it some what enjoyably but its a beautiful game so i would love to see it at its fullest potential which i strongly believe can happen with the PS3. Thanks all in advance for the help =]

    1. They have new UI elements you can toggle on/off that display things like enemy level, aggressive/passive icon, enmity level, hp bars, etc.

    2. Lots of sidequests now, and they all award SP, making them a very reasonable method of solo leveling.

    3. Healing after battle is auto, you just stand there in passive mode and you will gain back hp/mp at a decent rate.

    Enjoy!

Honestly, if you are THAT new to the game, it's not very surprising that you missed it. Some people run around in active mode all the time.

For the record, I suggest you have a look at "The Call of Adventure" which is viewable at any Aetheryte in towns or major campsites. It will help to understand stats and other useful things.

I would advise you level your DoH and DoL (Disciple of the hand & land), level at least 3 of them to lvl 20.
I made one mil gil in the 1st month like that.

So i had a couple more questions after a day of playing...

    1. Where exactly can i get new items? Im a Glad right now and still have the starting weapon. Ive found one place (the rudius?) and he wanted 67k gil and i about died and then wanted 400k for a shield is this really the cheapest he could do lol?

    2. I rolled on lindblum because im a huge FFIX fan and when i saw that name i instantly wanted to roll on that server. The question is, are any of the servers they have timezone specific or is it just kinda any server will have any random group of people from different time zones?

    3. I wanted to start doing some DoH or DoL classes but couldnt really find a place to start or get the right equipment to actually start on that journey, where exactly can i find such a thing? If it helps i started in Ul'dah.

Sorry for any silly questions or anything like that as stated before i am really new and just tryign to get the fullest experience so i really appreciate the help and as always thanks in advance.

The easiest answer is to check the Market Wards. (I think in Uldah, they're called "The Dunes" on your map.) Use the "item search" feature to look for the sword you want, and it will list the prices at which the swords are available, and which wards the guy selling it is located in. Find the one you want, then just teleport in, find that guy, and buy it from his bazaar.

Here's Yellow Gremlin's list of Gladiator weapons. Two things you can see from this list.

First, the starter sword is level 1. The next lowest sword is a Bronze Gladius, which has an optimal rank of level 6. That means if you use it before you get to level 6, you won't get the full benefit of its stats (often making it worse than a lower ranked weapon) and it will become damaged more quickly (meaning you'll have to repair it more often). Of course, the first few levels tend to fly by really fast, so it might not be too bad to go ahead and buy one of those. But as a general matter, I wouldn't use a weapon or tool that's a higher rank than you.

Second, over to the right of each weapon is a list of the NPCs selling the weapons, and the price at which they're selling the weapons. So Reluctant Boar is selling bronze gladii for 13,200 gil. If you click on Reluctant Boar's name, it will show you where he's located.

If you found an NPC selling a sword for 67K gil, that was probably a level 16 sword. I wouldn't try to use that until you've gotten up to level 16.

Money's actually pretty easy to come by in this game. In fact, SE is trying to make it more difficult to get money. Stick with it, and by the time you're at level 30, you'll probably have millions of gil to spend.

Well, different servers are "unofficially" associated with different things. Like I heard that there's an "unofficial" Aussie server, and there's an "unofficial" role-play server. But generally, every server is open to everyone in the world. So you'll have people from all time zones on every server.

Again, you can check Yellow Gremlin. But in case you're too lazy, there's an NPC named Tataroga that sells starter botany and fishing equipment. And you can buy starter mining tools from the Miner's Guild.

    Good luck!
