Yeah, have noticed that not many people talk at all. Must be a lot of PS players I figured lol.

I think this. This is the only game on PS that I have that you cannot use a mic on. I made up a few macros for common sayings and such, but if I need to type out something I usually don't even bother because I always get ready checked because its a cluster doing so

Grab a USB Keyboard so that it isn't such a cluster. I really don't think you're playing this game to its full potential without a one.
My experience as a tank is that when I try to talk, everyone gets impatient and complains because they just want to go and a dps will just run into a boss to start it...even if they are new players which frustrates me because I want to explain things to new players first (assuming they want to hear). I will not stop trying to communicate but, that is a frustration.

This ^^ for PS players. How much does a basic keyboard cost? $5-10? Any USB keyboard works. There's no excuse to not having a keyboard.

PC player here. It's extremely rare for me to talk at all in DF dungeons.
It just opens you to attacks. Even apologising (and yes, asking for help too) is often worse than just staying silent, even if they know it's your first time (and even in pre-50 content). Sometimes there are exceptions but it's rare.
That's one of the best parts about playing a tank in a tank starved game... I'll say "1st time for me" and then start going through the dungeon. Couple instances a 50 dragoon tried to jump ahead of pulls, so... I started dragging encounters into the next ones and kept his ass on the move. He dropped because he couldn't keep up with my pace, what a chump. Pro-healer though for sure--paced out 15 minutes of chain fighting with no break for mana or TP.PC player here. The coolest dungeons and raids are those where people say hi at start and keep their mouths shut till the end. If you die you will/should know which person is new and can explain what he or she did wrong after - no need to talk before that.
