I did Stone Vigor for the very first time last night. Had only 1 person in group that had done the zone before (edit: who didn't have any fruitful help to provide except, i don't pay attention, i just dps.) So, on the bosses, I was like: We'll figure out as it goes. If there's adds--Kill'em, if there's pools--don't stand in them (or any ground spawn). We 1 pulled everything except last guy, Healer got stuck in a field of pools and combo'd with the dive and died But the rest is just gaming common sense, kill small stuff, don't stand in obviously wrong places and moving is a priority over finishing that cast.

I'm new to tanking and I'm planning on just creating a party macro to notify everyone that "the run will not be fast, I will be marking enemies in terms of attacking priority and if they play along, things will go smooth." Thought about maybe throwing in a "If you don't like it, get out." But it feels like I'd perhaps antagonise some people or bring their inner troll out.

Any recommendations for a new tank, btw?

My experience as a tank is that when I try to talk, everyone gets impatient and complains because they just want to go and a dps will just run into a boss to start it...even if they are new players which frustrates me because I want to explain things to new players first (assuming they want to hear). I will not stop trying to communicate but, that is a frustration.

This ^^ for PS players. How much does a basic keyboard cost? $5-10? Any USB keyboard works. There's no excuse to not having a keyboard.

You could say the same about other classes. I have my share of DPS/healers pulling mobs at random. Either type or macro exactly what you need from the dungeon. If you choose to say nothing it will most likely become a SR by default because that is what most DF want.

PC player here. It's extremely rare for me to talk at all in DF dungeons.

It just opens you to attacks. Even apologising (and yes, asking for help too) is often worse than just staying silent, even if they know it's your first time (and even in pre-50 content). Sometimes there are exceptions but it's rare.

    Hey all ^^

I am one of the talkative type (not RP) in which a little hello at the start, or answering a simple question not with silence that I must assume they understood makes a smooth and enjoyable (fun) run.

I check the types of DPS I am being matched with, and then I try to pull accordingly. Even so, bad things can happen, and if I know it comes from me, I will type: My bad.

When it's clear another one made a mistake: nothing typed..

So everyone just take the shortcut again, getting back to the point, and move on.

Wipes are part of the game, it's not a big deal.

Turns down to some that their time is precious: if you don't have time to do a Dungeon that has a 60 min timer on it, don't get into one.

Now that myth is easier than ever to get, Speed Runners can calm themselves a bit.

From time to time it's ok, but always? Not for me.

So yeah - A bit of talking makes it feel you are not playing a solo FF game that you have companions (and even so I think NPCs would talk more than some lol)

Every single time I enter a dungeon, I throw out a "Rally-ho!". If no one responds, I instantly think "Oh jeez, one of those parties". I love talking in the dungeons...admittedly I don't talk much during fights (Don't tank and text y'all), but when running I like talking to the party, makes it more enjoyable that way. If everyone is silent, it's kinda creepy. I even have a rule: If you don't respond to my "Rally-ho!" at the beginning, I don't care how awesome you are, you aren't getting a commendation. Even if you are a PS3/4, using the virtual keyboard for a simple "Hi!" or "Sup" is enough. As others have said, you hamper your experience if you don't have a keyboard for the PS versions. Even an el cheapo 10 (of your local currency) is enough to communicate.

EDIT: This may just be the way I was raised with old school MMOs, but I like to go over a strat (or make sure everyone is on the same page). If no one responds, I have no idea if they understand or anything. This is huge in Mythflox. I like to know if I'm pulling everything or just some things. I dunno what everyone is comfortable. Maybe the AOE heavy people have never handled a huge pull, or maybe the Single target champs can handle full pulls. I don't pull until I know that everyone understands. At the last boss, I may have a MNk and DRG in the party...who is gonna use the LB? Who can skip the big bomb phase. I just like to know that everyone knows what will happen. Each group is different. Just because the group you were in 10 minutes ago would handle situation A, doesn't mean the next one can. Maybe I'm just old.

Yes, act like you don't give a rats ass about strategy and just pull them and figure it out as you go. You'll need to build on intuition to expect certain things in an encounter. Things like:

    Room: Shape, Size, Ceiling?-how high?
Mob type / weaponry - Is it a dragon, ogre with an axe..etc.
What mechanics have already been experienced in the game for you that may be used here?

These 3 are a good foundation to just go in an adjust on the fly. Like: dragon in a large area with no ceiling, ill expect flying, breath attack, maybe a wing beat KB. So... I will pull and put my back to a surface with enough room to dodge breaths but has access to not being cornered during flying effects if it has it.

That's one of the best parts about playing a tank in a tank starved game... I'll say "1st time for me" and then start going through the dungeon. Couple instances a 50 dragoon tried to jump ahead of pulls, so... I started dragging encounters into the next ones and kept his ass on the move. He dropped because he couldn't keep up with my pace, what a chump. Pro-healer though for sure--paced out 15 minutes of chain fighting with no break for mana or TP.
