This was gonna turn sour eventually. I'm thinking it was half fixing the eventuality when solo queue Ramuh Ex gets added and the strategy everyone uses is Titan-Egi, what if there are no summoners in the group? What if it forces 2 tanks into the party? Everyone is going to be used to Titan-Egi strats and videos and the people doing it in duty finder will be SOL.

At least Turn 2 enrage was still viable in Duty Finder.

I'll start by saying I haven't done Ramuh ex yet but the fact he only does magic damage worries me. Dragoons have no magic defense. Crafters have more magic defense than dragoons. So if the strat becomes to exclude DRG in PF do you think SE would make such a fast change? Not a chance. Or if a fights mechanics are horribly lopsided to punish melee while ranged have it easy do you think they'd make a change? Nope. Look at Garuda ex when it released and every party in PF said no melee. Did SE respond? Nope. But upset the spoiled golden children in one fight and the changes are instant. Obviously the solution is to wear crafting gear.

Because in the case of Ramuh Ex, one entire role (tank) is being locked out of the content. Players always choose the path of least resistance, and once a strat is established (t2 enrage), no party will use any other method. This is unfair for players who only have tank as a main job and no other sub class.

So what? We had months were non-ranger DPS were locked out of content. Garuda and Ifrit exe were a giant middle finger to them.

I cleared EX Primals just fine on DRG. Tornados didn't slow me an inch. Spine shatter across if the tanks didn't swap and keep going. With all those where melee was shunned you could roll with FC mates who knew you weren't derp. With Titan tank you aren't as likely to bring your buddy on PLD.

That's because my point is not that "you can't clear with non-ranger DPS" but "It's significantly easier with ranger DPS to the point the average PUG would prefer it". And let's not pretent Ifrit exe with a Ranged-pt doesn't allow you to skip several mechanics. Many parties didn't want a DRG/MNK since they made the fight much harder. It wasn't rare to find a PF with "RANGED DPS ONLY" message.

Just because you were able to clear it as melee doesn't mean it wasn't a problem for others. I knew the fight, and could reliably dodge double wicked wheel, but I end up giving up on extreme primals and end-game content entirely during that patch cycle because "ranged only" evolved into the go-to method for any type of pickup group. One day alone I got turned down from 4 different groups because "Ranged Only." The few times I tried duty finder, someone would say "Too many melee" and drop - usually a tank or healer. When I tried to create my own groups, they simply wouldn't fill.

I had to wait until echo just to get into a group so that people wouldn't care as much about having perfect group composition.

And why is that ? Your tank could just swap to some strength accessories and DPS as well. I mean, you just said it yourself, roll with FC mates. Or doesn't that apply here because of "reasons" ?

Turn 2 didn't remove a role entirely from the encounter. Just made it an easy solo tank. That and it showed up late in Coil 1s cycle as only geared groups could manage it reliably. Ramuh exploit showed up immediately and eliminated both tanks. Johnny PLD shouldn't be expected to grind a new role because "NO TANKS ALLOWED". Also if this continued we'd end up with a nightmare once Ramuh EX became solo DFable with no one knowing what to do with two tanks and no SMN.

Actually you could easilly clear T2 enrage method pre 2.2 with a drg tanking and a whm/ sch healing. You just had the whm spam stoneskin on the drg to stop stacks.
