Any possibility these will serve as the basis for a new job branching from lancer (/conjurer)?
Perhaps, if the upper echelons of Ishgard are corrupted as many seem to think, with a questline exposing the corruption and restoring the order?

Hard to say. Personally I think they're just LNCs in fancy armour. We already have a 'holy' type knight in the game anyway (PLD) so having a Templar type Job using lances would pretty much just be more of the same (and also, given the fact that traditionally Temple Knights in the series have been sword users - ala, the San d'Orian Temple Knights being PLDs in FFXI and the special Job in FFT), I don't see it happening really.
Yeah, if anything it seems like the Templar would fit it well as a tank. Temple Knights, Templar, the names are about the same and the Templar is a lance user in most of its appearances.
However there's evidence that Yoshi may be considering a wide-scale change to the class and job systems as the current set up can't really lead to entire equality in the number of jobs available to each class. I think we'll see classes being done away with and jobs taking over entirely with some jobs being able to share weapon types (such as a Templar and Dragoon both wielding lances) before we'll see them adding a 2nd job to any existing classes.
Have their been any clear indications towards that? Because I've often wondered myself, considering some of the classes have many viable options for new jobs (especially DoM classes) while Lancer and especially Pugilist have very little, at least when it comes to traditional FF jobs. Can't really think of anything other than monk when it comes to Pugilist.
And as alread has been said: Templar would already be a stretch for Lancer, as it seems msotly either Healer or Tank, and the weapon type has only been specifically a spear/lance in the FF tactics artwork.

In an interview Yoshi mentioned something along the lines of changing the entire system either at or after 3.0 (drawing a blank). I'll try and dig it up.
Yeah Templar used both swords and lances in just about every appearance. FFT it used swords exclusively; FFTA/FFTA2 it could use both equally but more than half of their abilities came from lances I believe (plus the artwork); Bravely Default they had an S in swords and A in lances. However it has only made 4 major appearances so they could make it how they wish to here in the same vein that SCH is now a pet job healer. They can go against FF norms as well and have: SMN uses a book instead of a staff/wand/rod/scepter and only has a pet for 25% of their damage, WAR is a tank instead of a DPS.
Edit: I found the interview:
http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/122...edia-InterviewQ: Last year when Scholar was introduced at E3, it was mentioned that it would branch off from the same class as Summoner, and this would be a mechanic that would be used more, but it has yet to happen for any other class. You haven’t announced anything yet, but are there any other plans to introduce anything like this? For example, another swordsman besides Paladin?
A: Well, we need to look into this and whether we want to keep that plan, it’s something we have to consider as we add new jobs and classes. One of the more difficult things with the system is that when a job is derived from a class, it's tied to the class's actions. Also, when we make multiple jobs from one class, the weakness with having multiple jobs branch out of one class without being able to freely switch stats around is exposed. This wasn’t a problem initially because both of those jobs were simultaneously added and it was planned from the start, but now we have to carefully think about this. One thing we could consider, for example, is a hybrid job derived from more than one class, but it may change depending on what we want to add. The number of jobs will increase even further with 3.0 (the expansion pack), and at that point we might decide on an entirely new mechanism, so please hang on for further details.
