This would bother me if I actually wanted anything from that fight.
Ah, as long as this kind of work around doesn't happen in anything worth while then have at it. lol

As a Main tank and someone who's done both method, this helps tremendously in clearing the content.
Simply put, the biggest part of the fight is the add phase. Having 2 whole extra DPS helps tremendously here.
BTW, there's nothing stopping you from going as an OT with DPS in mind. Both PLD and WAR can put up some good numbers, and they can tank it in a pinch. We've had Titan die at the end in some runs and I just took it from there, eating the healing penalty until we cleared.
Rude!
Sacurrrrr-ity! Saaaacur-ity!
You chose to play what "99%" of the community plays, your choice. People are denying your friend totally from doing this fight because of a broken mechanic :/ that's not his fault or choice.
Because tank swapping mechanics were soooo prevalent... oh wait. Only a few fights have it, and that was a result of "off-tanks" complaining they had nothing to do!
As for the topic at hand, since Titan-Egi is a tank-pet, I don't see this as any different than 1-healer methods, 1-tank methods or 3-healer methods for various stuff.
I'm the tankbot of my FC and static. Even in Ramuh (we got our "legit" win there before this method), they make me tank it with Titan. So, in the end, you only get rid of ONE mechanic, which is the tank swapping and probably the stack building for that thunder attack. The rest of the fight still requires some coordination, because of the tether, the charm, the adds, the thunder stacks... so, no biggie.
Well atleast theres a reason to use my summoner now.
Pretty sure tank swaps 'happened' because people keep trying to 5+ dps in fights when SE wants people to bring 2 tanks for 8 mans (Titan HM). They added 3 extremes, 2 of them were tank swaps. They added ultima HM and that was a tank swap. They added moogle and levi extreme and one of them was a tank swap. They added ramuh ex and that has a tank swap until players decide to tank it with egis. Out of 7 trials added, 4 of them are tank swaps intended. Even t6 has a tank swap (we go 1 tank now) and my static used to try swapping for ravensbeak on t9. I'm not sure if t9 was intended to be a tank swap fight but that's 1 out of 4 2nd coil that has tank swap mechanic. I would say that warrants more than a sarcastic remark on the amount of tank swaps in these 8mans. Additionally, relic hydra had a cleave mechanic that used to require 2 tanks to take the damage together. I haven't seen that in any other fights in this game. Really odd to have one mechanic appear in almost half the fights but only 1 other mechanic appear once.
Anyway, my problem is the weapon drops. Tanks can easily switch to dps but the weapons do not drop all the time while the accs does. I can see the ring drops be put on lock rolls in PF groups but I'm not convinced that the weapon locks will be the norm of PFs. Since these parties will have no tanks, if a tank weapon drops, it will most likely be put on FFA rolls. A tank that switches to a dps for this fight and actually needs the weapons as an upgrade will have a really really low chance of getting his weapon in most of these PF parties.
They had to totally rework most of the jobs and fighting system so that they could shoehorn each class/job into one of three roles, removing the possibility of a straight support class and hybrid classes.
If this mechanic actively works against itself, what was the point of hyper-simplifying it at all?
You must be remembering things differently than me because as a non-empathy Defender I always got tells asking "R U Healer?"
