I actually loved the patch this story around, mostly because there was a sense that people actually appreciate and value YOUR deeds instead of 100% of the glory being allotted to the Scions like in past patches.

The biggest annoyance to me was that they tell me, "You'll understand why we did this when we tell you the strategy." and, IIRC, the only strategy you get is, "Go attune to a beastman aetheryte and you can finally face him!"...

I like think that maybe they had you do all of the things they did to train for the fight. The banquet stuff was just an excuse plot.
