ffxiv.yg.com is a good resource for finding mobs.

Some examples in Thanalan might be:

    http://ffxiv.yg.com/npc/lead-coblyn?id=3102103

    or

    http://ffxiv.yg.com/npc/dodo?id=3102002

though if I am soloing around this level (which I don't do that often) I usually go to La Noscea and kill Puks:

    http://ffxiv.yg.com/npc/puk?id=3100103

    http://ffxiv.yg.com/npc/sea-puk?id=3100104

Puks make good grinding mobs because if you are paying attention to their animation or your chat log you can anticipate Backflip and move to the side causing them to miss. Without their big special attack landing they are fairly easy to kill even 10 levels above you.

I'm afraid I can't speak too intelligently about this because mob distribution and locations were changed pretty significantly in patch 1.18. I've also noticed that Yellow Gremlin has kind of outdated lists of mob distribution. It's still a good place to start, though, since it's really easy to use. Just realize that they date all the way back to the first days of FFXIV, and some mobs have been moved since then.

And like Murugan suggested, partying up is a great option because you can take down mobs much easier, and you only get slightly less SP (in fact, if you duo, you don't get any less SP per mob). Just make sure the person(s) with whom you're partying are within 5 levels of you so that you both get the most SP possible. And when you get enough people, try fighting mobs that are at least 10 ranks above you. Mobs that are 10 ranks above you give the most SP.

And for the record, I completely agree with Murugan on soloing puks. I went to La Noscea and solo grinded them, too. When they start to glow, just move around to the side so they miss you with their backflip attack. There used to be tons of them out by a Lighthouse near Camp Bloodshore. But I haven't been there in a while, so they may have been moved out.

at that level, you can either do some Behests in Drybone which by the npc's standards are ranked at 15, there are also Ladybugs around Horizon that are level 20-24, they're easy, just run far when they ready their TP move, The puks in La Noscea are also 20-24 and can be found around a light house like Vydarr and Murugan suggested.

ALSO! there are Lead Coblyns located far north of Horizon lvl 15-19

Starting at rank 22 you can join the Grand Companies of Eorzea located at the same place as the Market Ward in each of the cities. You can join all 3 of them at once as a recruit at least, you may then do quests for them (including the quests for the new instances) in addition to XP for these quests you also receive company currency which can be traded in for consumables/items/gear.

There are a lot of mobs, but unfortunately beastman types don't give as good of xp as many mob types.

I am having problems with this as well. I've been spending the last two hours running around the area Camp Horizon is in at level 19 trying to find stuff to kill. Barely any Dodos or Ladybugs.. tons of Aldgoats. Not even half way through the level *head desk*.
