I disagree, the current mechanics are much an improvement over XI, in every way.

That's nice. Sad though that even in XI there's monsters with noticeable changes and nuances during battles that make them seem like they're actually alive rather than a script. For example many of the enemies ripped out of XI don't even behave like they used to - The Black Dragons for example, if you attack them from the back, they'll attack you with their tail (visually) and back legs, while someone in the front will get hit with their front legs/mouth, in XIV? Nope.
Then again, I think this post was sarcasm, since the only true improvement this game has over XI is accessibility in certain areas (since graphics only matter to a point.)
So does everything casting heavy to simulate "danger", and the overworld largely being meaningless. It's true that FFXI's overworld is a lot more dangerous than FFXIV's, and yet I vastly prefer FFXIV's.
The reason? Killing stuff that agros me is a hell of a lot more fun than having to sneak past mobs because they can kill me just by looking at me. That stuff gets real old real fast.
I don't mind them trying to make the world accessible. I certainly can't complain about no longer having to spend ten minutes just planning how I was going to travel from town to town.
But if I want to throw myself face-first into danger that's a honest-to-god personal challenge, I'd like that option to be available.
When I was playing WoW, that took the form of grabbing a friend and duoing old raid content that nobody thought could be done with only two people.
There's no equivalent of that here.
I love the FF MMOs, and I really want to like this game. I'd just like to see some content I can't sleep through, that doesn't take 24 players to do.
