An objection about changing the new achievement "The Crying Game."

The decision to change the title off of one person's overly-sensitive and paranoid fear of persecution in itself has offended me. The localization team's original intent was not to make a jab and offend a community, but rather to make a reference to a movie that was critically well received and nominated for and won several academy awards.

Localization team, please rethink the change; one person being upset because they misinterpreted the reference is no reason to punish the rest of the community who appreciates the joke. Please don't give in to internet bullies.

I fail to see how this was "bullying." One person was upset at a localization that referenced a transphobic movie. I also fail to see what the movie's critical acclaim has to do with it, and I urge you to reconsider asking for a change the localization team was more than happy to make because it gets your knickers in a twist that the NA team is listening to its playerbase. And how is this a "punishment?" The overblown reaction to a simple request is hilarious.

I normally try not to weigh in on these things, but I have to agree with Mitsukai. The achievement "The Crying Game" was in no way offensive, and while I'm not a fan of the name (it doesn't really fit defeating an epic raid boss), the complaints of one person (or a very small minority of people) should not be a reason to change it. Developers and translators need to maintain some level of artistic integrity and freedom to create content and not have to fear that some small, vocal minority might get their knickers in a bunch at some random pop culture reference.

Yeah, I think people are confusing the movie as a whole with a character within said movie.

While I don't support changing one's artistic vision because of some perceived offense, I don't think that's even applicable here. It seems reasonable to me that the English localisation team had to name the achievement something, quickly came up with the title of a movie that might loosely be associated with the encounter, and went with it. After seeing a complaint they simply repeated the process.

When I first saw the title "The Crying Game" not knowing the reference at all (didn't know the movie), I thought it was referring to the fact that the fight is SO HARD that you'll likely want to cry a lot before you beat it... after all, they did say even the dev team, fully understanding mechanics and all, could not defeat it or at least had a very hard time.

Now that I know about the movie title behind it (thanks to the description of the OP of the last thread), I understand why the name was chosen... the whole meaning behind Darnus and being male/female at different points in the storyline. But, even in the original thread, not knowing the movie, I assumed a scene that depicted someone being disgusted by a transgendered person would HAVE to have some sort of pro-LGBT vibe. Aka, "Look at how he treats her, that's bad, don't do that. Be accepting." And then, someone else posted the full storyline of the movie explaining that the movie itself depicts the guy having a revelation and apologizing for his transphobia. Well isn't that a nice ending! Regardless, the thought behind the movie didn't make the connection that people would find a way to get offended. SE's localization team probably just decided to cut their losses and change the name rather than cause a fuss. I'm sure they researched the movie before making the decision, not realizing how people would take it. Most people probably won't see the movie, and may take it the way the OP of the first thread did.

I think T9 should just be reworked or removed from the game, Nael is obviously a transgender herself and so it's very insensitive since the goal in the turn is to beat her to death.
