Can confirm this works as well, i have never hunted for so long without a problem. Turning on Occlusion Culling is not needed though.
Only problem is, i don't really like having to make changes when my card(R9 290) is more than capable of running the game.
Wish there will be a fix for this soon...

What it does is reduce the quality of distant geometry, head to Thanalan and look at distant tree's and mountains as you switch it on and off.
The LOD Streaming setting, affects the texturing on characters and objects, I actually found this setting to be causing the gear preview window to have low quality textures on most armor and clothes. You can also see its effects on the dead Goobdue in east thanalan, the skin texturing becomes flat as you move away from it.

LOD streaming also helped here so far, I have yet to crash from hunting S ranks, and as a weird side effect my long load times got also reduced by 1-2s![]()

It hasn't been a long time but I can confirm I have not seen a crash lately with LOD streaming toggled.
I think we might be narrowing in on the problem. Again R9 290X latest drivers

Can confirm. No crashes since I turned on LOD Streaming (the other one I already had on).
Is more or less hit and miss for me. Crashed once more in a hunt with LOD & LODStreaming on, and nearly again with a massive slideshow during an S rank only to have t9 later that night give a few slow downs, ending myself up with performance/sync issues later on if the client was not restarted (player names turning into spellnames they cast, screenshots not properly being taken with "Failed to take screenshot" message, and if you attempt any kind of graphical change in the game you get the whole "Unexpectedly closed (1)" message.) One thing to note during the slowdown was that there was a few on my TS mentioning I had the DC symbol, over my head.
Specs:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
CPU: AMD FX-8350
GPU: Sapphire R9-290 (x2) crossfire config - 14.6 R2 beta drivers
RAM: 16GB

I don't think it's an error with the drivers, however anything is possible. I am also crashing on an R9 280. Coerthas actually had a weird example where I can look away from the town and gain my FPS back, but if I turned back it'd get destroyed. I've also had LOD Streaming on for a long time, crashing still occurs teleporting anywhere I've noticed, but mostly in Coerthas and Mor Dhona. I haven't had LOD distant models on, but I'll give it a shot see if I improve. I'm pretty sure my machine is more than capable of this game.

OS: Windows 8.1 Pro 64 Bit

The issue still persists i.e. if you hit the 1.45GB threshold the game dies.
LOD Streaming prevents the memory from accumulating indefinitely over time which triggered the issue. However, if a single area pushes the memory usage past that threshold, you will still crash. The zone area between Mordhona and Coerthas on the Revenant's Tool side seems to be a repeat offender to trigger the issue. Especially on high population servers where Revenant's Tool has a lot of players.
Note: I play at 5760x1200 so the issue occurs more often for me because I am constantly skirting the threshold of 1.45GB.

This weekend I disabled eyefinity and went to a single monitor setup for testing and that seems to have removed the crashes for me so far. I did see a big decrease in memory usage (I was at 5760x1080) down to < 600GB on average and with the decrease in memory the crashing went away even with LOD on so far.
I want to go back to Eyfinity but it seems the combination of CrossfireX (R9 290X) + Eyefinity + DirectX 8 + Windows 8.1 causes this crash to happen almost constantly after the last update.
