You can make it so the pet hotbar appears in the crossbar instead. It's in the settings.

But unfortunately, that disables the ability to switch between multiple regular crossbars. You either get multiple regular crossbars or else one single regular crossbar and the pet crossbar. It's a really awkward setup that makes the pet bar nearly useless on PS3 (and I assume PS4, though I haven't actually tried it since moving to PS4, so I'm not certain).
